The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

No, because Obama always frames things in a Republican sense and the actual Republicans are always unsatisfied.

Obama could propose a constitutional amendment ordering the immediate execution of all liberals and the Republicans would veto it out of spite.

Because of course Boehner and his party are saints working for the Good of America and cannot possibly be to blame for any of this.

Hoover Dam couldn't be built because you'd veto an effort by Malia Obama to build a sand castle at the beach with a makeshift sand dam in it if you had the power to, much less an actual grand public works project.

Has Dean gotten over his crazy moment, politically? I have a feeling that he's shot his load.

Does Paul Ryan actively hate poor people?

Apparently Ryan thinks that owning anything nicer than a junk car means you're rich enough to not need food stamps. Never mind that unless you're living in a city, you pretty much need a car to actually have a job.

Paul Ryan is your average suburbanite WASP. He's never been outside the Suburbs for any large length of time, never lived in the inner city or poor rural areras, and has no idea what life is like when you dont have enough money to live on.

Technically Ryan is Catholic, so he's not a WASP.

Dean's problematic. He's a representative of the People's Republic of America side of the Democratic Party, and while the posters on this forum might not mind that, America as a whole is going to be kinda nervous about that.

Is that the People's Republic of America side of the party that continually suggests the policies that poll in the 80% range of popularity among Americans as long as you file the serial numbers off?
