There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016We're going to vote against lower student loan interest rates, then vote FOR even HIGHER student loan interest rates! Oh, and it's Obamacare's fault because everything is Obamacare's fault!
Give me a fucking break, McConnell. You and your compatriots have repeatedly voted against anything at all that your side didn't approve, just to make Democrats look bad. And now you want to blame them for YOUR fuck-itidy?
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryOK, concerning Lautenberg's seat: The Washington Post described Christie's choice as a win for him but also for the Senate Democrats. Assuming that is accurate, what does that tell us?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanMc Connell your side just released a giant report about how you're losing young people. Why are you so gungho about pissing them off even further? 44% of young people agree that healthcare is a universal right and that the government must provide it. That's not a majority but it's certainly a big problem so using it to attack higher loan rates will only backfire since you're losing them on two issues.

No, it's just them doing anything they can to attack Obama. Why should they care if they're hypocrites?

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016Colorado State Senator John Morse recalled.
For those who haven't been watching, this is the guy who forcibly pushed through gun control laws while telling his fellow state senators (on TV) to ignore feedback, then staged a telephone campaign to tell constituents that the people petitioning for the recall were criminals and perverts.
So yeah, fuck that guy.
Sexual assault in the military should not be handled by military personnel. They've proven that they not only can't but won't do it effectively, and the responsibility needs to be taken the fuck out of their power. Because seriously, fuck those shitheads. Sexual assault and rape are serious matters.
And people say sexism doesn't exist anymore.
Regarding an earlier post, I'm curious to see how Obama basically daring the Senate not to confirm his appointees is going to turn out. Aren't there several positions still empty because Senate Republicans keep refusing to do that?

That sounds confusing. Also no, I haven't heard of it before now. Doesn't appear to have gotten news press outside of Colorado.

Representative Jim Bridenstine Rails Against Obama’s ‘Vengefulness And Lack Of Moral Compass
Tentacles: For the love of god, don't fucking remind me. -_- It's an utter disgrace that Walker's still in office, but it couldn't've been avoided. Arse got millions more in campaign funds to throw about because of Citizens United while Barret had to use only funds within the state (and thus was subject to their finance laws).
So basically, fuck that guy.
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryReport: Obama appointees using secret email accounts
On the one hand I totally sympathize with wanting a secondary private email, but as far as national/organizational office and the immense amount of power being wielded is concerned we kinda do have enough trouble with lack of transparency.
If their concern is flooded inbox (legitimate given their extremely high profile position), it shouldn't be that hard to only accept mail from a list of associates, then make the relevant bits public.

And this is why I have such a crush on the First Lady.
Michelle Obama doesn't care if you're a pissed off "lesbian looking for equality before you die." She's still not taking any of your high-school shit.
It was an honor
Down, boy: she's taken.
Hmmm... do you think the Obamas could pull a twofer? First black dude... first lady president? I think I could roll with her style. (I mean, seriously: who heckles the very people at least trying to drag the legislature kicking and screaming towards policies that benefit you? You deserved that craftily engineered, collective put-down, doofus.)

There's a thread on if college is worth the cost. Please take the college cost discussion tangent there.
