Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Actually it isn't really, but I'm not wading into that whole debate (not to mention it's off topic).
No, T-paw, there really isn't. Or at least, we don't give our crazies microphones.

Unless I missed something the IRS unfairly targeting political groups because of their beliefs is a scandal.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote? The point is no groups should be targeted. If there is cause to suspect fraud then you go after a group. Just declaring every group with tea party in the name suspicious is wrong.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?Just so we are on the same page: What is the evidence in the IRS controversy so far?
Also, Heritage is complaining about the House bill? Shouldn't they be bitching about the Senate one?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanGoing back to topic of South American miners, I do not plan to exploit Polish miners in case I were in charge, I just want to eliminate privilidges that their representatives and workers in mining industry above the ground hoard for themselves. Saved money could be spend on better equipment and safety measures (survivalibity of workers is important because the better trained they are the more efficient they become). Exhaustion of easily available oil deposits will likely lead to a local boom in industry as extracting fuel from coal and shail oil will become a viable option.
My President is Funny Valentine.I guess the bullet-button just wasn't good enough for the gun-grabbers. I really wanted an AR with a Raddlock too.
The stupid part is that they had 30+ round magazines in that picture, and they I guess "re-banned" them or something, because 10 rounds has been the magazine limit in California for quite a while now.. Then again I shouldn't be surprised that my congresscritters aren't aware of our own laws.
Plus, are you fucking serious? A 50 dollar fee to be put on some sort of list as a requirement to buy ammo? And they didn't mention how often you'll have to do this? Not to mention the entire fact that I have to be put on a list and go through the entire background check shit just to buy ammo??
Sometimes I think the goal of these folks is specifically "Make it so ammo is too expensive for poor people" or something. A 50 dollar tax every time I buy ammunition would be absolutely crippling. It would make it more profitable for me to drive to the state line to buy ammo in Nevada or Arizona almost. Nothing about that is reasonable, so I hope it gets knocked out in the assembly. It just seems like the goal is always "Fuck regular people. But if you have enough money we're ok with it."

I'm getting a 404 on that link. (Actually the site comes up but with "Page not found." Same thing really, but some people are die hard on the technicalities.)
EDIT: Something seems to be wrong with the outgoing link to the LA times. The story can be found on the feed on the right side of the page anyway.

But that's a story for another time.Yeah that's the one. When you put in the URL information, it creates two spaces that you have to delete next to some commas.
This better not mean M 1 A's are banned. Because fuck them if it does.
The only good thing for California to come out of all of this is that the ranks of Reserve Police Officers and Reserve Deputies have absolutely swelled. I'm probably going to Reserve Academy sometime soon, then I'll be a POST certified peace officer instead of just military, and I'll be able to flip the bird to California and just buy whatever I want, 30 round mags and all.

Until I googled I thought you meant the M 1 A tank...not the rifle.
About the whole IRS thing...I'm just a bit confused. Isn't it their job to audit people and make sure everyone is paying their taxes? If you paid your taxes and did your paperwork correctly, shouldn't they have nothing on you? It's not like being targeted by the IRS means them coming to your place and trashing it or breaking your legs.
If resources allowed, shouldn't the IRS be ideally auditing everyone and make sure everyone is paying their taxes?
