Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Note: not everything that Obama and the Democrats say is accurate either. They tend to exaggerate and distort stuff. Not enough to make what they say outright lies, or even half-lies, but... Well, see here, for example.
Saying, "It's just politics," amounts for most of the stuff we experience every day. But for the past... call it 30 years... the Republicans have gone above and beyond in their casual manipulation of truth for political gain.

To my understanding, it's an inevitability unless the Republicans manage to alter themselves completely. Which from what I can see, isn't happening.

Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite.Yeah, I've heard that before. Texas has a growing Hispanic population that votes Democratic. I think the state itself is slowly becoming more liberal but the Hispanic population is what's really going to tip the scales.
I agree with Ace on some points. I'm still doubtful as to the timescale, though. It would take a lot of work to get Texas and Arizona blue before 2016.
As for it being the death of the GOP, that part's pretty much inevitable regardless of whether the Dems can take their two biggest states, given their idea of conservatism is alienating large portions of voters.
Another thought: What would happen if the GOP stopped existing?
Direct all enquiries to Jamie B GoodGreens would probably form a large part of the new left, too.

Boehner wrote it in big crayon letters so his caucus could read it.
