Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Interesting.
Very.
Is it just me or are progressive causes going really hard on the "have an app and a site ready to help at all times" tactic?
Well, considering how much technology still seems to confuse conservatives..
I do love how within 3 posts the comments turn to some guy railing agasinst "radical leftist" george soros and demanding an app that lets him boycott soros. Another pster pointed out he could use the buycott app to do so, and he started screaming at her.

It's about everything. Skeptical Science put out an app that lets you identify, research, and respond to any climate change denial argument in seconds, linked to peer review research and everything. I see a lot of smartphone guerrilla warfare in the progressive activist playbook.
Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this.It was their monuitoring software they had designed so they'd know what districts to ramp up get out the vote efforts in.
It apparently wasnt stress tested well enough, and so when they flipped it live on election day, the whole system was nonfunctional.

Question: What would it take to disillusion a majority of the Republican voters into defecting to the Democrat side and/or other non-Republican parties?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. That Hate Map is interesting. It doesn't look like my area really has that much stuff but I can't zoom in close enough to be sure. There does seem to be a very faint blue when I search cripple but that's it.
I am a bit curious about why the western portion of the map is more barren compared to the eastern.
The GOP would probably have to do something monumentally stupid like nominate an explicit Nazi or segregationist to a major position.

Still it's proof that Bengahzi has no real effect on Clinton's popularity.
So does anyone think Eric Holder should resign like Rumsfeld did in 2005?

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016Nah! What do they have on Holder? Rumsfeld was practically on Richard Nixon/Spiro Agnew/Dick Cheney levels of corrupt if I recall correctly.

Dammit I laughed.

Yes, but Holder's problem is unrelated to the IRS thing.
Needless to say, this is sort of a spit in the The First Amendment's face, and has caused quite an uproar in the world of Journalism.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016Speaking of labor unions, they shouldn't be powerful, but average. In Poland we have already to put up with nonsense of overprivilidged groups like teachers and miners who moan about not getting enough money, while they earn more than average worker here. There should be a balance between employers and employees.
My President is Funny Valentine. No, technically, it means that there's a 67% chance that her actual approval rating changed within the range of ticking down by about 2 to 3
Except in the U.S., teachers get paid rather crappily. I don't know about miners' pay, though I would imagine that healthcare costs should ideally be pretty substantial (since the work is pretty grueling and dangerous) and while I've not seen data I would venture a guess that they aren't paid well for this.
