The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Sad thing is she probably isn't being opportunistic. She comes across as a genuine true believer... she is that nuts.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.

You act as if she hasn't ever done this sort of stuff before.

My reaction to this was "this seems par for the course."

No. that'd be the time she claimed she did the career she did to be subservient to her husband. or the time she blamed natural disasters on sinful americans

When's the next chance for Minnesota to vote her out? 2014? Have the Dems set up a good opponent for her yet?

The guy who ran against her in '12 (Jim Graves) stated he'll run again, I think.

Personally I'm hoping she becomes the Republican VP candidate in 2016, Santorum/Bachmann would make Romney look downright popular.

He's actually right. It would make Romney look popular.

It would, but on the other hand, do we really want to risk the Bachmann campaign getting out the voter suppressors?

Like the next Republican presidential campaign won't regardless of who's the candidate? With Bachmann she might repulse enough people that even major voter suppression won't work.

Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this.

When did Bachmann take office for Minnesota? I thought she was just being a pundit since she quit being governor of Alaska.

You're thinking of Sarah Palin. Michelle Bachmann is much crazier than her.

Reminds me of when everyone freaked out about Obama 's middle name. Which is actually a very generic one technically . It was stupid.

He changed the spelling of his family name to Hosan in the hope his children would avoid discrimination. "He Americanized it," his daughter explained. "He got Hosan from Hosanna. He kept hearing it in church."

To me, this is the most depressing part of the entire article. I wonder how many of the soldiers giving her shit would call themselves Christians if asked.

Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.

[up]Never got the logic behind that. If God is upset that we're not worshiping him why would he be such a jerk? I'm pretty sure being nice would be a far better plan.
