The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

There's nothing in that article that details what sort of punishment he'll get, let alone the chair.

Also, if the president is coming discuss jobs, I'd at the very least treat him respectfully because HE'S THE FUCKING PRESIDENT AND HE'S TRYING TO HELP THE PEOPLE HE WAS ELECTED TO SERVE. You know, the same DAMN THING YOU WERE YOU DOUCHE.

I just hate Cruz, okay?

The funny thing is, Cruz is a just out of college kid with little experience at doing fuck-all

if anyomne has no job creation credentials, its Ted Cruz.

He's not /that/ young, but its a pretty close appelation. he's a freshman senator. he's done nothing since getting into office except paint himself as some sort of decisive speaker.

Its why even his own party despises him, because he's the equivalent of a fresh faced high schooler (only age 42) trying to make a run of it.

So? There've been far younger people that have done more useful things, like for instance the current Governor of California back in first term from '75-'83 (this is his third for those not from California like myself or Deviant Braeburn).

That was an accomplished man by the time he left.

Ted Cruz is just sad,and to say 42 means nothing,...it's only because of people like him.

What the hell? Why would you think something like that was a good idea?

It never ceases to amaze me how utterly fucking stupid people in public office can be. I wish I was privy to the thought processes that cooked up that moronic video.

That was totally a manifestation of a meme. Remember that the memes aren't the individual instances, but the patterns and trends; in this case, we have an instance of "Image Macro". I thought it was kinda funny, too. Mostly because "creating jobs" is such a nonsense expression.

Christie: You might be a good Republican, but what about everyone else? tongue

That was half serious. And honestly, the party should not be the supreme dictator of your opinions, so Christie seems to be pretty smart.

Yeah, Mr Inhofe, and the Tea Party "pork barrell spending is bad" mantra is Obama's idea, too.

I agree with everything Christie claims there - except for the "armchairs" thing, since these people actually engineer crises.

"The IRS apologized Friday for subjecting Tea Party groups to additional scrutiny during the 2012 election, but denied any political motive"

What makes the Tea Party deserving of an apology and NOT the other political groups the government actively and actually tried to destroy in the past?

Because the Tea Party is more likely to raise a song and dance on this.

I don't know why the IRS would apologize for anything when they're the one department that consistently pays for itself. Maybe the TEA Party was threatening to sue and the IRS wants to preserve an appearance of political neutrality and just doing their jobness?

I would love to see the day that Dave Koch's name comes off of those two buildings at my alma mater.

Unfortunately, he's been hugely influential in giving money to biology and cancer research, and he's also my fellow alum, so that's not likely to happen at all.

Fuckin' bastard.

[up]That's the going theory.

I don't know how well it would work though. It's already long forgotten except by those who would never vote for her anyway. If it does become an issue she just has to ask why they never threw a fit over Bush losing 60 people.
