Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Let's not speculate wildly with so little evidence. For all we know, this could have been an assassination on someone in the area, and the terrorist attack pattern is to throw off investigators. There's going to be all sorts of noise on the net in the next two weeks, complete with conspiracy theories and false flag accusations, and I for one don't intend to contribute to it.
Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this. The Boston Marathon, while moderately popular among fans of that sort of thing, is still not a big blip on the radar. So yeah, I'd be surprised if it wasn't domestic in origin.
If it was right-wing nuts though, I'd have thought they'd likely have pushed the attack back to the 19th, which is a lot more symbolic in that regard.

No, and thankfully no one I know was down there either.

My Megaman and MegaTen RPG LiveblogsSeparate explosion hits JFK Library
, according to Russia Today.
Uh-oh. Russia Today is not the most credible source, however. Let's wait for confirmation.
If it is true, condolences to any involved.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiLo and behold, The Other Wiki already has a page
on this.
They're saying twenty-three injured but the numbers given by the hospitals add up to over 30.
edit: BBC is talking to a witness that's a veteran. He says he definitely smelled cordite which is used in explosive materials. He also thinks it was an attack on the spectators given the location of the bomb.

Perhaps they are distinguishing between injured and seriously injured.
Apparently some of the Newtown families were seated less than ten meters from the site of the first explosion. The last mile was dedicated to them. Dear God - I hope they are safe.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiTargeting the JFK Library makes it almost certain to be right-wing domestic terrorism. Why would international terrorists go for that?
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

I've walked through that area a countless number of times. It's such a horrible and surreal sight to see that corner become the site of a bombing.
