Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Better yet, politicians ought to stay away from the Internet in general until they actually understand how it works.
Honestly, I like our President for actually seeming to understand this stuff. See the response to the "we the people" petition about the Death Star project...hell, the whole petition thing in general.

Eh. Between PE classes playing some mildly rough sports and marching band going 3-9 hours on rehearsal days, injuries happened often enough that there was pretty much no excuse for that kind of priorities in my mind. Someone's bleeding or limping, you get them a goddamn ice pack.

I remember in 7th or 8th grade, my general P.E. class had a day where we were shown a video which showed the entire reproductive system, including a penis ejaculating inside a vagina shown from the inside. The sex itself had a discretion shot.
I also had another sex ed class as a freshman which showed, among other things, how to apply a condom the right way.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for the Aurora shooter.
On Friday, prosecutors rejected an offer from James Holmes to plead guilty in order to avoid execution.
The 25-year-old is charged with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder in the attack in Aurora, one of the worst mass shootings in US history.
Dozens were wounded in the attack at a midnight showing of a Batman film.
"It's my determination and my intention that in this case for James Eagan Holmes justice is death," Arapahoe County District Attorney George Brauchler said at Monday's hearing, which the accused attended.
Mr Holmes' parents sat holding hands in the public gallery.
I don't agree with the death penalty under any circumstances, but if I did...
Sigh. Cases like this really test that particular conviction of mine.
Colorado has not executed anyone since 1997, so it is not guaranteed Holmes will get the death penalty. However, it is very possible that he will. If he does not, he will almost certainly be looking at life imprisonment anyway.
