Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

@Kostya: WI has gone very red lately. ¬_¬
Also, for those who haven't kept up, the Jon Doe investigation has ended, and they didn't even touch Scott Walker.

You will not win even with an arsenal. The thing about a gang is that they will always outnumber you and be better equipped. I also feel like he's just being insane with her talk of anarchy descending on us. I have immense doubts about that scenario actually happening without the government declaring martial law and putting a stop to that shit.

x3 Apparently Gov. Walker is just plain untouchable, the bastard.
@Kostya: Its simple. Its how all tea Partiers and fundie christians I know think. "We're right, so if America doesnt agree with us, then we'll ignore them and do the right thing anyhow because theyre evil and we're the last bastion of true america. "
Whether if it will work isnt the point. The poiunt is regardless of if it works they refuse to budge even an iota against "the bad guys"

That's actually how some liberals see it though. I know I sometimes catch myself thinking like that. I find it unsettling.
Also I just want to note that I really hate Islamophobes. I'm currently debating someone that seems to think all Muslims are working towards the implementation of a worldwide caliphate. Can't we just leave these people alone? They've dealt with enough bigotry.

yeah, its a problem across the board with humanity. To some people sticking by moral guns even while the ship is burning and theyre drowning is more important than anything. It gives us humans that lovely feeling of being a solitary hero standing up against the evils of the world.
well, I have seen a conservative christian friend of mine argue that without God to give us morals, there'd be nothing stopping everyone from sinning their hearts out through wanton rape and murder, so I imagine some people just cant pictuire a world where people not like them wouldnt be total monsters if given the chance.

Stable civilization couldn't exist without average people treating each other well. If everyone hated each other or only looked at others as stepping stones, I don't know how a culture could possibly survive. Even if every individual doesn't help many people, enough people behaving that way can have a huge impact.

Paul Ryan: 2016 White House bid now ‘more realistic,’ rules out running for House Speaker
Senator Johnson (R-WI): Most Republicans willing to work with Obama
Representative Sander Levin (D-Mich.): ‘Radicalized’ GOP makes budget deal tough
Jeb Bush says there’s no ‘Bush baggage,’ leaves door open to 2016 presidential run
To be fair, it is in the rulebook. Matthew 28: 16-20.
The three great 'conversionist' religions are Christianity, Buddhism and Islam. All three are now present in the U.S. (Buddhism and Islam are roughly equal in numbers).
Best of luck, folks!
Republican's problem in 2012? They're seen as the party of out-of-touch rich white guys. Solution: Run the two richest, most out-of-touch white guys they can find for the White House.
Republican's problem from 2013 to 2016? They didn't win the White House. Solution: Take the rich out-of-touch white guy they ran as VP last time and put him forward again.
Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this.actually their new problem is they realized they lost because they didnt cater at all to minorities and their solution is to make such an absolute baldfaced token attempt to appeal to minorities that it offends us even more because they assume we're all a bunch of fucking idiots who can be swayed if they stick Marco Rubio up instead of Jeb Bush and say the exact same things.

Think they'll try a Ryan/Rubio ticket?
EDIT: Wait a second!
Paul didn't actually disagree with Holder's position; he was using the filibuster to raise funds?
...and fuck.
They're employing the "Salvadoran option" in Iraq.

Lindsey Graham acts like a racist prick.
The "roving gangs of black men" meme again?
