Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Chief of Staff McDonough: Pressure is on Congress to craft deal on immigration reform
Is anyone else creeped out by Mc Donough's face
?
It's the eyes. One is looking towards the camera, the other is... looking elsewhere. That's what makes it unsettling. It almost looks like a bad photoshop.
Glove and Boots is good for Blog!
The dark eye circles, large forehead, and crooked smile aren't exactly helping either.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016A bit old but, Obama commemorates International Holocaust Remembrance Day, and the National Review responds by defending Nazi violence as "not senseless"
.

I remember when Buckley's son quit the magazine in disgust because one of his coworkers suggested that republicans needed to stop being insane (specifically, that Sarah Palin was an awful excuse for a republican that was damaging the party) in the magazine and the response was she got mailed hundreds of death threats, including someone wishing she had been aborted and thrown in a dumpster.
Unsurprisingly,. he resigned soon after as a deluge of death threats for him came in as well after he authored a piece where he proclaimed he was voting for Obama that election cycle.

Yeah. because the "No-Jew can be a member of the race" was a more sensible point to the people who voted the NSDAP like equal rights for all citizens, better support in old age and so on. *dislikes the implication*
I'm not trying to defend anything, I'm just a bit miffed that if they try to defend the NSDAP voters and quote out of the 25-Points program they should maybe read more than the first 4 points...
Also, the jump from "The NSDAP hat some good points" to "The Holocaust violence was not senseless"....??

"You can reply to this Message!"In that light they're right but who cares? It was still a tragedy and you do not want to be seen as being at all sympathetic to them.
edit: I am just waiting for the GOP to go so extreme they actually nominate a Nazi like person for president without realizing what they just did.

One of the comments on the article says it all: "Obama enjoys breathing oxygen - obviously a Muslim, as Muslims need oxygen in order to pray to Mecca."
@ Midgetsnowman: I completely agree.
Kansas is going to be "fun" to watch: Last year the Governor introduced a bill to take away the income tax on small businesses and was balanced with an increase in the sales tax. Only the first part got passed and now he is basically begging the other politicians to pass the other half. The local news story I heard stated that Kansas has enough "in the bank" to survive with current spending levels this year, but not future years.
Kansas Struggles Discover New Red State Model
which is hilarious in that sales Taxes are far more damaging to consumers than income taxes on a business.
Not to mention I've never met a poorer person who dislikes the income tax given it usually comes out to them getting a large sum of refund cash.
so the whole "everyone would love to get rid of the income tax" thing only rings true for middle class and up.

the National Review was founded white supremacists and anti-integrationists, it's never not been full of nutters.
You can't even write racist abuse in excrement on somebody's car without the politically correct brigade jumping down your throat!
