Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Yeah, they want to deport Latinos, not elect them to the presidency. You thought the Manchurian Candidate conspiracies around Obama was bad? Rubio gets nominated, people will be weeping and asking "when do we get a white president again?" (Nevermind that Rubio is as white as Latinos come. Hay mucha leche en ese cafe.)
I find that article oddly enlightening. It makes a huge amount of sense, and it also goes a long way to explaining why the wealthy in this country are so out of touch.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"After all, Romney is almost as Blue Blood as they come in the US. I can also cut it down to two words:
Noblesse oblige

Keep Rolling OnNoblesse Oblige means "the nobles' obligation" and is the idea that the upper class have an obligation to look out for the well-being of the poor/less fortunate (while being paternalistic and snooty about it- see Downton Abbey). I'd say that Mitt Romney while having the snooty part, was sorely lacking in any sense of obligation.

I believe that his father fit the definition though. George Romney tried pushing for more low income housing and the like, if I'm remembering things right.
I don't think that Christie has a hope of winning the nomination after he dared to call out the House GOP for playing politics with disaster aid. Plus, like Romney, he will be branded as another "North Eastern moderate".
On the other hand he pretty much just won a second term (his handling of Sandy was a huge boost) in the Governor's mansion if he wants it.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. My Dad claims that compared to Presidents like Reagan and Clinton, Obama is not good at dealing with Congressmen.
He cites one case when John Boehner got reelected as House Minority Leader, and no one at the White House had his cell phone number so Obama could give him the expected congratulatory call.
By the way, thoughts on the sequester cuts?
I'm gonna have to agree with your father for once chihuahua,...the thing is,Reagan was pretty much the Iron Man from day one and he had a huge Senate on his side until 1986. He made sure the House wouldn't mess with him,...thank heavens Tip O'Niel was able to do anything.
Clinton was just like Obama for the first two years,...but he figured out that GOP was gonna have none of it and finally ascended to the same Iron Machine Reagan was.
Obama has been nothing but compromise, compromise with an even more partisan opposition than either Reagan or Clinton.
As for Boehner getting re-elected,what the hell does that have to with compromise or good Congress relations?
Once again what Obama really amounts to is a two-termed Jimmy Carter.

You're both insulting Jimmy and giving him too much credit. Dude folded like a lawn chair in the face of some weak-ass manufactured scandals. Obama's been hit with worse and got reelected after achieving more in his first term than Carter did. On the other hand, I doubt Jimmy would have bent over backwards for the GOP like Obama has.

Fugelsang made it seem like Watergate ramped Up To Eleven. That true?

. You wanna bet the gun debate is going to flare up again?
Not in this thread, please.
Focus, instead, on how the killer of Osama Bin Laden will not receive any healthcare benefits from the military.

The best part is that not only does he not offer to buy back the domains on the free market, he goes to the U.N. for litigation.
So does this mean that Ron Paul is actually a NWO/UN shill? I knew it!

I'd say it isnt the catholicism that'll hurt Rubio. Its being latino that will hurt him. Last I checked, at least in my mid missouri, tea party infested neck of the woods, the average teapublican despises the wetbacks who done took der jurbs
