Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

@Marq: I've already made it known how I feel about state legislators and the like trying to defy federal law and claiming they'll attempt to arrest federal agents for doing their job. The most reasonable was a sheriff who said he simply wouldn't enforce any new gun restrictions. Everyone else is going to try and arrest federal agents and if they actually do that they'll be laughed right out of a court and into a jail cell for trying that.
and thats were the whole clause of commerce controversy comes in.
COME ON! you are filthy rich! and you push for copyrigh! buy the damn DVD! (unless its anime because I can understand the pain of unsucsefully looking for legally subbed versions of certain content).

I will always cherish the chance of a new beggining. And here's cracked's take on the whole veep getting down with the kidz to talk about gamez and gunz issues.

Starting an article off by calling it "The Truth" is never a good sign, let me just say that much.
Well, one of the things about the US is that we tend to like our realistic gun violence. I mean, you look at anime, there's ki blasts everywhere! In America, we find that kind of shit trite! Does this affect how people view violence? Eh, maybe? I'm not a psychologist. But the linked article just annoyed me, because it had a deliberately anti-scientific bent.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016What the fuck does Nugent even do? I heard he was some sort of musician, but he seems to spend most of his time calling women bitches and ranting about how the Obama administration is out to get him. He's a damned idiot who's pretty much fishing for reactions.
And of course the GOP wants to block a bill that increases public employee play. What would happen to their claim of governments can't create jobs if the government actually pays government employees reasonably well?
Well, "government doesn't create jobs", in context, seems to mean that the government simply rehashes jobs rather than producing entirely new ones, and that's not the only option. They're jobs that can theoretically be in the private sector but are better managed by the government for other reasons.
The government can create jobs by doing things like hiring back all the postal workers they forced into being let go with that big shitfit over the postal service having to adhere to a draconian budget, hiring more teachers for schools all over the country (as well as actually giving them pay that's worth a damn), increasing government posts in various areas (decentralization such as the CDC being based in Atlanta), and increasing the infrastructure of public transportation, as well as hiring people to improve all infrastructure in general.
Several of these things would be permanent as well as something you'd have to keep hiring people for. Infrastructure doesn't stop needing to be repaired and improved.
