Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Man behind ‘Deport Piers Morgan’ petition has meltdown on Piers Morgan’s show
The 38-year-old Texan continued, "America was born on guns and whiskey. It's true we're a violent society. ... You're a foreigner. You're a redcoat. You're telling us what to do."
"You finished?" a visibly stunned Morgan asked Jones at one point.
Jones also accused Morgan of fleeing to the U.S. to evade questions about the U.K. phone hacking scandal. "You're a hatchet man of a New World Order," Jones said.
Meanwhile, Jones added, England is becoming a police state. “You have hordes of people burning down cities and beating old women’s brains out every day,” Jones stammered. "They arrest people in England if they defend themselves."
I just posted this in the British Politics Thread, but I thought I should post it here too.

The Taliban and the Mexican Cartals seem to be managing. Granted I don't know if a militia of rednecks is on par with either group.
Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016Earlier this week, Bill Maeher sai he wouls donate $5 ,illion dollars to a charity if Donald Trump would send him a copy of his birth certificate. Trump did and now is demanding Maeher to pony up the money.
The article also shows Trumps birth certificate.

Those are military questions, and for the most part, the answer might be "be effective." All that technology hasn't exactly been the automatic "I Win" button of the United States in Iran and Afghanistan. It still requires that "Boots on the Ground" bit.
Not that I think it will come to that, but there is a breaking point fast approaching, and there's a lot of people getting very mad about it.
@ Deviant: Biden's meeting with the NRA is tomorrow

I actually have to give Trump props on that. I bet Maeher never even dreamed that Trump would call his bluff.

Is this a good economic move?
@Devil
Well I'm sure that meeting will go splendidly.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016Wouldn't sanctions decrease pollution because of less economic activity?
I mean America's pollution rate dropped rapidly when we went into a recession.
Also this has nothing to do with US Politics.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016I do know that our sanctions on imports of refined gasoline have forced Iran to turn to low-quality alternatives.
Military contractors guilty of poisoning their soldiers now wants compensation

The Iranian government is denying that its low quality alternatives are the cause of the pollution.
Then again its the Iranian Government.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016US politics isn't directly related to air pollution in Tehran. At some point, Iran's got to be responsible for their own air. Not to mention that the sanctions happened in response to the actions of Iran's government.
KBR can go to hell though, if they expect for others to pay the price for their negligence. That doesn't even seem like negligence, actually, they outright lied about how harmful that chemical was. Jesus. Those weird endemnification contracts sound like the stupidest thing for the government to have signed right now.
Friends, admirers celebrate Nixon's 100th Birthday
A Hundred Years of Tricky Dick.
Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016Some history: KBR was once a subsidiary of Haliburton. Before becoming Vice President, Dick Cheney was the CEO of Haliburton.
During that poisoning period, 830 servicemen (from Indiana, South Carolina, West Virginia and Oregon) were affected by those toxic chemicals.
Since they're a subsidiary of an oil company, KBR claims to have used those chemicals to make sure that the pipes were not corroding so they could get the oil out easier.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016@Deviant: I think Biden's blowing smoke out his ass on "executive action" on gun bans, and if Obama does take executive actions, they'll actually be completely legal ones. A new gun ban would have to fall under the auspices of criminal law, which cannot be established by executive order AFAIK - any judge would laugh their ass off at any attempt to prosecute.
Now, if Obama wanted to devote serious FBI and DOJ heat to ensuring that any convicted felon found with a gun on him faced twenty years in the clink, that'd be legal. I also can't hear the right objecting to that (because I'm not listening to their objections :P).

You know, going back to the idea that "You'll just become conservative once you're older" that the Republicans seem to believe in, it isn't that our views will become more conservative, but instead that the views of the next generation are going to be even more liberal than ours. When we get to become senior citizens, we'll be the conservatives compared to the liberals who will wish for laws allowing marriage between natural humans and artificial humans or something like that.

Wizard Needs Food BadlyTexas State Rep. Lon Burman (D) introduced a resolution calling for a constitutional convention to overturn Citizens United.
This is in part due to the efforts of Wolf-PAC member and coordinator Todd Jagger, who took the initiative to talk to representatives about getting money out of politics.

In RWBY, every girl is Best Girl.On the "increase sales tax, lower others" thing, from what I've understood in this thread it's clearly a move in favor of money hoarders, against people who actually spend most of their income.
And as was said here, those who hoard money are the rich, while the poor spend most of it on living (food, rent/housing loan, bills)
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."

The Washington Times does not appear to be fond of Biden the way it talks about him. How likely is it that Obama would use executive action on this issue anyway?
The response to that petition is about the only thing the White House could do. I'm glad they mentioned the value of the First Amendment over the Second.
