Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

What was hard to read? I intentionally avoid using spell checker to improve my spelling. Actually thats the reason why I am here arguing with everyone all the time.
Its my little scheme to push myself to better orthography. It all right there at Baff
I also do make a lot of typos >__< but that's also part of it.
And furthermore the spell checker is set to another language so I dont really like to be switching back and forth.

I will always cherish the chance of a new beggining.Confounding "though" with "do" is probably the most confusing thing, though it's a forgivable error.

So your theory of learning to spell better is that if you don't use a spell checker, you will somehow learn to spell better?
It's interesting, but it's not very kind to the dyslexics on the board. Non-standard spelling is doubly difficult to read if you're dyslexic.
What's good about the U.S.? You managed a Revolution without too much mass slaughter. You've kept democracy going reasonably well (i.e. not fallen into dictatorship) for over 200 years. You make good movies. And you created the stage musical.
Bad things: you make a lot of money out of other people's wars, you interfere in a lot of people's wars (but hey, my country did that too) - and you still owe us for the tea.
While I find that generic American tea is rather tasteless, I do love some spiced chai with soy milk — I feel very British when I drink it. And this is off-topic.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"![]()
Doesn't sound very British. You need a proper Tea Bag*, right?
...and on the other subject, your spelling (or lack of it) attracts attention away from your point, Baff, especially for a Grammar Nazi with an Ambiguous Disorder...

Keep Rolling OnWell if you have a lobby from Nigeria you don't call it the African lobby, do you?
Yeah there are a lot of Jews supporting Israel, but there aren't that many in such high positions of power. A lot of what keeps Israel standing is a bunch of Christians who believe its existence is necessary for doomsday.
Is it relevant that while I'm American, and love tea and my beer dark... I also live in New England, still the most European region of the country?
Also seconding this, so very much. Among much else (for instance, those who are actually Zionists would probably have already moved to Israel), Israeli attitudes have been molded by constant attack. American Jews' haven't.

She of Short Stature & Impeccable Logic My Skating LiveblogThe operations of companies like AIG are comedy gold. Or would be if they weren't dead serious.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"So thats the Big Business Version of suing someone for broken rips because he performed lifesaving CPR?
Classy. In a just world they would now loose a lot of clients.
However, I would actually pay money to play mouse in the Oval Office when Obama heard it. Might have learned some interesting new cursewords.

"You can reply to this Message!"Can the federal government countersue? I like the thought of making back what we spent on that sucker.
Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this.I think we made a profit on the AIG bailout.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I'd hope the judge simply says "Beggars can't be choosers" and kicks them out. Cue the Flying Pigs

"You can reply to this Message!"Again, if the Federal government didn't pay market rates, they might have a case, but as long as they paid market rates, then they paid due compensation, unless AIG is trying to argue the government somehow arbitrarily used its governmental powers to deflate the market rate of AIG so it could buy it as a steal.
Basically, a good enough lawyer could make the case, though it'd be quite asinine.
Things like this make me wonder if maybe the morality player people don't maybe have a point that sometimes we should allow 'too big to fail' to fail when they do really dumb things.
Now, to figure out a way to do that without the inevitable collateral damage to the economy....
Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.

Baff: You're getting hard to read again — have you got a spell checker and do you use it?
