The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Its funny how some gun people are like "Big govermnet wants to take our guns!" and on the very next sentence sort of go like "we should banned violent video games" to which I go like "so you want Big goverment to take my halo away but not your guns hu?"

I'm kind of surprised that Gingrich said that. It's one of the first times I've seen that guy warn the GOP on anything regarding its ideology.

Also, I would also watch a Biden reality show. That would be pretty interesting.

I think its less an ideology warning and more saying that the second the banking industry complains, the Go P will lose its "moral fiber"

Actually, I was reading somewhere that NRA was decrying certain violent videogames, but not mentioning others. Gonna have to find that article.

In other news, the official votes for the presidential election are in, and you know what percent of the votes Romney got in the total election?

47.2%

Oh, the irony.

half the games they decried havent been big news in years, so if anything, it made them look out of touch with reality when they complain about games like Doom and Postal that no young impressionable child these days has likely ever seen .

76% of spliced Pokemon voted for Obama? Doesn't surprise me.

Neither does what O'Reilly says. Blatant racism is blatant.

I hear that another complaint about violent video games is that they desensitize children toward actual violent acts.

Do you think that argument has any weight?

Heed my warnings. When your children gain Uber-1337 FPS skillz, they shall turn upon you with violent intent and headshot your ass, and then they shall put their crouches upon your mangled faces in their wicked arts of tea-bagging.

This has been foretold by the great prophets of Moral Guardianism, Fox News, and we all know that they're trustworthy when it comes to just about everything.

I'm wondering what drug problem exactly he's talking about there, because it seems like he's being deliberately vague. I realize Hawaii has terrible problems with poverty and cost of living, which is probably why they vote Democratic; they realize how much the help is needed.

Nuh-uh, they vote democratic because the gubmint has made them so lazy and dependent on handouts they no longer can afford the bootstraps they need to pull themselves up to being massive business magnates and joining the reublican party.

It used to be the Republicans were the more moderate and more rationale party. Within the last fifteen years, that situation has reversed, and the Republicans now hold onto unrealistic tenets and are forced into a lock-step when it comes to voting. And now they have a view that the poor are too stupid or too lazy to get money.

The feeling is that the Tea Party has a stranglehold and is keeping the Republican middle from having it's own voice. That there is a total lack of intellectual courage and lack of diversity in thought.

As for video games, remember the Mass Effect debacle?

So I've been sort of busy with the whole life thing and just learned that we "averted the fiscal cliff" Which is nice and all but the news is incredibly vague on what that means. So what exactly happened?

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?
