Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The article says that Congress can still backdate the cliff even after the new deal. I don't get that.

In RWBY, every girl is Best Girl.Go post that in the Venezuela thread, where Hugo Chavez in relevant.
Serrocco, you're being incredibly contradictory here when you say "raise all taxes" and then "only raise the taxes on the rich" and all that dumb shit. The point of tax cuts for the less well off is so that they don't end up being dirt poor and unable to contribute to the economy. This is why progressive taxation makes far more sense than this flat rate shit you're starting to spout. And yes it is flat rate, what you're saying. What the rest of us want is progressive taxation, resulting in the rich paying more of their money into taxes than the middle class. Because the rich can shoulder that particular burden better than the rest of us.
Flat rate taxes don't work. It just makes the middle class poor and keeps the already poor right where they are. You're spouting shit that would only hurt the middle class.
Whelp, it's 2013 on the East Coast now. Time to continue another year of politics in this country of mine and the other American tropers.
Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite.

The middle class is in no position to shoulder the sacrifice though. The rich are. Serocco this will not make things better it will just make many middle class families struggle even harder to break even which is not what we want to happen right now.
