Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Your analogy's off. The Coyote is America, the GOP's innate urge to stop Obama (chasing after the Roadrunner) is what's throwing us off the cliff.
Anyways, I wanted to point everyone to this "Fiscal Cliff" tax calculator
, if anyone wants to check out how much their personal taxes are going to go up.
Make sure you put your income before taxes under income or you may be off.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."It would, but I live in Canada and don't pay U.S. income taxes.
There's still a chance that we come out of this with higher taxes on millionaires and no cuts to Social Security, so cross those fingers.

And dammit you're the third Canadian person I know that's so braggy about their country's status. >_<
lol JK
Btw what's Canada think of our politicians inability(repubs) to come together on this deal?
"I don't give a rat's ass about going to hell. I guess it's because I feel like I'm already there." -MugenTo be honest, after a Conservative majority that's been actively screwing us for years, the thought of a House that can't get anything done has a depressing appeal.
EDIT: For the record, U.S.-born dual citizen here.

Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this.Yeah, you can't pass a budget with only one house of Congress.
Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this.Obama called out Congress for its "clumsiness in negotiations" and insisted that he'd demand more tax hikes if Congress demanded more cuts, basically giving away the queen.
For some reason, that pissed House Republicans off enough for Baehner to actually Rage Quit.
I guess Obama's capitulation irked even the Republicans.
