The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

He should just sit on a scale and have foreign leaders match his weight in gold, or oil.

I pity those foreign leaders if Chris Christie ever becomes president.

Michael Moore: ‘Leave Piers alone!’

I read this in that annoying "Leave Britney Alone!" Voice.

British Morgan “immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens.”

1. What the fuck is this

2. What the fuck is this

3. Please don't send him back.

I cant say I agree with this.

But I would chuckle (sorry, I would laugh out loud) if he actually got deported.

It would be like a Monthy Python sketch.

Edit: Of course he is not going to get deported. Besides he is not the first bothersome british guy we try to deport (Lennon I am looking at you!)

You petition has 46 signatures.

Ours has over 80 THOUSAND! (evil laugh)

Currently Mr.Morgan has made his situation worse by calling for a Gay Marriage 'Amendment' To Bible.

I could say "that's a bloody stupid petition" but we came up with "institute windfall taxes on Steve".

Currently the 'deport Piers' petition is the third most popular petition created.

The Second most popular petition created is one calling for the Succession of Texas from the Union.

I say we start a petition to give Texas back to mexico.

Especially since the original Texans pretty much stole the land and refused to learn Spanish like all other mexican citizens do (ironic.)

I support both petitions! (not that I think they are right, I just find them hillarious)

Besides Texas leaving the union would ensure total democratic control of the House, Senate and the presidency I would beleive.

All do my favourite so far is: Have Dianne Feinstein be try at federal court for treason.

The one where the founder of Conservapedia is trying to rewrite the Bible to remove 'liberal bias'.

Yeah, I read/saw that.

Indeed, the Come Together thing is well meaning, but painfully stupid.

Bitchin.

I got responses on my little encourage-local senators-to vote for pass-med weed bill- project. Both IL district senators had told me they're voting for the medical marijuana bill in January. Sweet stuff huh?

Can we please stop bringing up the goddamned Texas secession petition? Again, those things can be signed by anyone from any state, and it's been signed by what amounts to a very tiny fraction of the Texas population. (Which is 13 mil last I checked.) It's getting annoying and borderline offensive. There's plenty of stuff to complain about without bringing that up.

[up]I guess that is sweet. Not quite sure how far along my state is going; we get a lot of the cartel crime here so it's difficult for me to gauge how willing the populace and thus our politicians to are to legalize anything. We do have a lot of libertarian and liberal "let people do what they want" going on, (yes, both at the same time, check out Austin sometime) but there's major organized crime issues on our border.
