The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Or perhaps he also saw what happened to everything the last time we went partisan aka The Bush Years and how everything was even more fucked up then.

The problem isn't bipartisanship,it's simply that the other side don't believe in it and he hasn't figured that out yet.

I found a piece of news that not too many are reporting on, not even left-leaning networks like Current TV.

King Abdullah, of Saudi Arabia, announced that women can now vote and run for office. In Saudi Arabia.

I do kind of find it funny it has to be Ron paul pointing out the NRA is suggesteing the sort of Police state the NRA is constantly terrified of Obama putting in

The appropriate response to this petition would be to call it an attack on the first amendment, and declare he'll only deport that guy if the signers agree to be deported too (regardless of weather he actually can).

If one side of the argument can make one sympathise with Piers Morgan, then it's time for a serious re-think.

Incidentally, you can keep him. If he gets deported I'll happily sign any petition to send him back.

And let us pray that come it may (As come it will for a' that)

His hair?

Because only a fucking idiot would think defaulting on the nation's bills would be a good way to save the economy.

Wait he admits that going over the cliff won't have the dire repercussions the Conservatives like to talk up? Did he really just admit that?

So, wait ...

Saudi Arabia has elections?

Contrary to Fox news belief, most middle eastern countries have governments more complex than plopping a random Muslim Cleric on a platform and screaming "jihad" repeatedly.

[up][up] I'm in.

[up] it's gotten to the point where QI (a popular panel show) has someone lose points for answering "Piers Morgan" to the question "name a poisonous it's snake" because it was so boring and predictable.

What's precedent ever done for us?
