Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016so in completely unsurprising news, apparently Ann Coulter has suggested the shootings wouldnt have happened if everyone on school grounds were allowed to have conceal and carry permits.

Why the fuck does anybody take them seriously? I can understand wanting to arm teachers even if I think it's stupid but giving children guns? Yeah, that won't backfire. It's not like kids aren't prone to hurting themselves by playing around!

I understand that. But thats all the more reason for me to be pissed off about people who think praying in school or arming teachers with glocks is going to magically save children.
I'd rather not let more children have unopened christmas presents because some goddamn religious lunatic or gun nut seriously thinks that their freedom to own an assault rifle or shove jesus down every throat in america means jack shit to me when kids are dead.

My old ma has a saying - when it rains, up come the worms.
Every American tragedy seems to prove this over and over again. Like Falwell blaming the ACLU for 9/11, or the left-wing crazies blaming PNAC, all the way to Mike Huckabee blaming the separation of church and state or right-wing crazies blaming gun control for school shootings.
It sickens me. Why do these people keep coming back? What will it take for a national discussion mature enough to turn around and say: "Your opinions have no merit. Preach to your choirs whilst we table more important discussions."?
