Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Then I suppose the moral of the lesson here is this: PAY ATTENTION.
About the labor unions; Eeesh, how do you get that to turn around? I live in a right to work state, and the only union I know of is the teacher's union my mom's a part of. I don't know if my sister is in it or not, and she was in danger of getting fired because she got pregnant pretty quickly after she got hired to the place she works at now. (this was a few years ago) As a result she pretty much hid the pregnancy as long as she could. Hell, I'm not even entirely sure if it's a proper union as such, so I guess I'll have to ask.
Huh, this is interesting. And... kind of strange, maybe?
Likely leaving the race open to Scott Walker and causing Harry Reid to flip his shit at Obama... maybe its time to Take a Third Option. There have to be more qualified people other than Rice and Kerry, right?
The thread is confusing Scott Walker, Republican Governor of Wisconsin, with Scott Brown, outgoing Republican Senator of Massachusetts, who is viewed as the best Republican candidate if Obama taps John Kerry, the other Massachusetts Senator, for Secretary of State, which would probably annoy Reid because he would have less seats to demolish the filibuster with.
There are many other Democrats who could be Sec State, there are precious few Democrats who could take Kerry's seat.
I say we get a moderate Republican who is qualified in a state where the seat will likely be filled by a Democrat to fill the spot. It will give the perception of reaching across the aisle, give the Democrats an advantage, and make it hard for the Republicans to oppose the appointment without risking getting the moderate to flip or a full out civil war happening in the party.

As have I. I frequently Face Palm at some of the things said by even those politicians that I generally agree with.
