Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

People believing that is true has a direct effect on society and policy. This does not since it didn't happen. If it does happen in 2016 then it will have a direct effect in which case it's worth talking about.

What are they exactly? I've heard the term but I have no clue what it means.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016You remember how Marco Rubio said he believed the Earth was only several thousand, not several million years old?
He's backpedaled on that statement
.
@Kostya: "Right-to-work" laws are laws that ban the union shop contract. Essentially, your employer can't require you to join a union in a right-to-work state.
In theory it's a good idea, and union shops are morally abhorrent to a lot of people (most notably libertarians), but in practice unions are completely ineffective if they rely on voluntary membership.

Fighteer, you can't just say "strawman" to deny my comment, especially if it's unproven. I mean, you can't even find an example to prove me wrong from China or India? If you have valid facts which prove me wrong, then give them to me, and I will happily eat crow. Until then, I will see it as at least a valid concern.
I can take this to PM if you think it is too off-topic, but I don't like it when people don't at least try to refute my arguments.

In RWBY, every girl is Best Girl.Fox News isn't happy that Obama won't meet with their reporters anymore
.
@Serrocco: If we're not talking about your posts, it's likely because we don't find it as interesting as you do. And as this particular post was about something that definitely didn't happen... well, maybe you should just deal with it. The rest of us have also been ignored frequently.
And while people haven't forgotten about Clinton's sex scandal I don't think anyone actually cares anymore. What with his wife having a fairly good record as Secretary of State and his own recent and obviously influential actions in the Democratic party. It was nearly two decades ago, no one wants to keep rehashing something that isn't news anymore.
The Right to Work thing really confuses me. I mean, on the one hand, I really think that if you absolutely don't want to join a union you shouldn't have to. And that whether or not you're hired should not depend on whether you're a member of one. On the other, I find all these attempts to prevent unions from forming or trying to cripple them horrendously immoral and damaging to human and employee rights. I'm very pro-union because I know that they work for the benefit of the common man and help balance employee numbers and bargaining against employee wealth and bargaining.
You want a relevant article? I already posted one about South Dakota. Nobody's commented on it yet.
If you still won't comment on it, fine. I got other news. I agree with Jon Stewart
. He's clearly said his position on it. What of you?

Bill Clinton called. He wanted to let you know he was never Republican.
It was an honor
