Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Actually couldn't he just ignore them? What would they do then? They'd have to physically oust him from the White House and if they tried that they'd run into the Secret Service.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranJoe Biden tells Sandy victims that they’ve got a “homeboy” in the White House who “gets it.”
You know what would be interesting? Republicans fielding a candidate like President Bartlett. Salt of the earth, devoutly religious, highly intelligent but also down-to-earth and accessible... Do you think someone like him would stand a chance, if they ran for GOP primaries?

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the concept. What is he talking about? And what is he apologizing for?
I'm—my head is full of unfulfilled interrogation points right now.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. It's a common allegation by those opposed to our involvement with Israel that American Jews have a great deal of control of our nation's media outlets. It's also a common allegation that many US media outlets are controlled by liberals, and thus anti-Israel along with all other stereotypically "right-wing" causes. Evidently Murdoch was trying to point out the irony of Jewish-owned press being anti-Israel in attitude.
Now, there's several ways you could go with this, ranging from "genuine confusion" to "deliberate political point" to "random snark", and which one it is depends on the degree to which Murdoch himself holds either or both of those views.

<><Well, yes, I know, but if it is true, why does he apologize for pointing it out? There's just no way you can spin this as anti-semitic; it's Straw Traitor at worst. And one wonders why Murdoch would care more about backing Israel than the Jewish segment of the US citizenry.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

If I'm reading it right, you were correct; it's the new Congress that decides the president.
