Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Tea party activists blame losses on Republican establishment

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016They already did get their way, at least in terms of Romney's (and Ryan's) actual positions on the issues, which aligned with their own.
Of course, he didn't have the right political "image", and that seems to be the only thing beltway pundits - or the Tea Party itself, for that matter - seem to care about anymore.
Then again, when you've long since morphed into little more than a much more obstinate version of the exact party you were supposedly rebelling against, I guess that ignoring the issues is the only way you can legitimize your existence.
House GOP gets a shove from Boehner
Joe Biden's other son joins the military
Romney is a moderate in the eyes of the Tea Party! The Tea Party getting there way would be Rick Perry, Steve King, or Sarah Palin being the Republican presidential candidate.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016@Potatos Rock: Switching a drug's schedule does nothing. Methamphetamine and cocaine are both schedule II drugs and their punishments are much, much, much worse than marijuana's, which is usually a misdemeanor charge.
What it does is it makes it legal to obtain it for medical/scientific purposes. For instance, I know my university's bio lab has access to methamphetamine (Schedule II) for use in experiments on animals, but I don't think that is the case for cannabis. This could have the side effect of making it easier for the states to engage in Loophole Abuse to stop federal intervention.

"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." Twitter![]()
But I'll quote the two most important comments on the mater:
If a Democrat wins, then a whole bunch of enraged conservatives claim there gonna succeed.
If a Republican wins, then a whole bunch of enraged liberals claim there gonna leave for Canada or Europe.
Its all fun and games.
And besides its an Internet petition.
EDIT: Plus at least 1/5th of the signers don't live in Louisiana.
I mean, sure, let's secede from the US because 25, 000 people on 4, 574, 836 wants to secede.
Also we've already had a Civil War.

To me the overreach of power is the idea that the federal government is allowed to shove its nose in this sort of thing at all.
