Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Define "blocked".
Four senate wins(out of 16 possible, and since it's the Senate, there were zero Tea Party Incumbents that could lose), and only four of the Tea Party incumbents in the House lost(out of 67, if I counted right), but they still got 3 newcomers that won... I'm not seeing the whole "blocking" of the Tea Party...
Depends on the candidate and their district... Usually their days are numbered, yes... But whether it's the following election or not depends on when they faltered. Since mid-terms tend to go Republican anyway, Bachmann will probably stay until 2016...
Holy shit, you're more strongly against fracking than I am!
...then again, I tend to try not to have a strong reaction to any issue. That said, I still oppose fracking.
Not necessarily. Dave Reichert (R-WA-08), Jim Gerlach (R-PA-06), and Jim Matheson (D-UT-02) have survived multiple close races.
I love the Rage Quit by the conservatives, especially Rove's meltdown. He swindled billionaires, basically - he gets a large amount of personal money from all the Super PAC ads, and he wasted so much of the billionaires' money. It's perfect karma.
In RWBY, every girl is Best Girl.I love how Karl Rove began questioning the journalistic integrity of that Fox News correspondent when she called the election for Obama. Right for the Wrong Reasons encapsulated, right there.
"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."I'll savor this moment. The moment where the Republicans lose badly and admit they've lost badly. This moment might never come again.
On the other hand, I doubt the Bush tax cuts will expire. I'm expecting Obama to conjure up a deal with Boehner that'll cut Medicare, Medicade and taxes. I'll even go further - after they cut the social programs and cut taxes, I'm expecting the Democrats to lose heavily in 2014.
In RWBY, every girl is Best Girl.Okay, this is a few pages back, but the Wisconsin thing. Eliminating taxes on intangible property, what does that even mean? Is intangible property supposed to be something like intellectual property?
Also, that libertarian guy is a raging jackass if he's simply going to refuse to interact with any of his family and friends just because of differences of opinions. Hell, it basically sounds like he never loved them or respected them to begin with. Jesus.

Republicans still after gutting apart Obamacare, despite Boehner saying it's the law of the land.

Hoepfully Bachmann will lose her seat in 2014. She barely won this year, and she's the incumbent. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if incumbents squeeze out a win they don't stay too long.
