Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Hell no. Super PACSs continue to grant entities who cannot directly finance a candidate legally the ability to support him/her. Which is attractive as hell. I suspect it most likely will cause people to reconsider how the Super PACSs may spend that money beyond traditional advertising.
While I'm not sure Romney was being truthful with his concession, he at least had the maturity to admit when he was beat. So I respect him on that, and he didn't try to fight the Election to the death.
Rove on the other hand deserves to be mocked and jeered for acting like a two year old having a temper tantrum. And the sooner he falls out of power in the Republican Party's machine, the better. He's one of the big people preventing legitimate reform in this country as far as I'm concerned.
The people we are jeering at, Starship, are the political pundits (on both sides, but more on Fox News) who were SO CERTAIN that Romney would win despite ample evidence to the contrary. The entire conservative media complex has been on a fantasy trip for the past four years and we celebrate the bursting of their bubble. I have no respect for people who knowingly and deliberately lie to advance an agenda while pronouncing themselves "fair and balanced."

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"That I'm typing this on my iPad without the ability to easily cross-reference my posts while writing them.

Hilariously, Krugman just made a point on this same thing. Basically we're mocking the burst of the information bubble on the Republican Party's propaganda machines. Rove was one of the biggest pushers of this, and well.
People enjoy Schadenfreude immensely.
Indeed. I respect Edwards Grizzly and Starship Maxima precisely because they can engage us with rational arguments and debate facts. We may not persuade them (or they us) but we can identify common ground.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Looks like the Romney campaign states that Obama has won Florida after all, though it was reported yesterday that it wouldn't be fully certified until November 20th
.
Link here.
This is what I wanted.
Don't know if this has been posted yet but the reaction of some people who wants to move to another country coz of Obama re-election is hilarious:
Democrats dismayed at Bush can at least move to Canada, where would Republican really move to?

Why, you overlooked my post #39083:
Electoral campaigns: 5.8 billion dollars
Those pictures: PRICELESS. ![]()
Most of the Facebook posts etc. on there are so moronic that I don't feel bad for these people for a second. In fact, I have a strong urge to point at them and say 'Ha Ha'.

Mache dich, mein Herze, rein...I just recommended that Australia bit on Facebook. It is priceless. The GOP only has itself to blame for those blatant failures of education.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Ah, I get it now. The Republicans talked a lot of shit and got beat. I can dig that. We deserved it. After the President shoved Obamacare and automatic amnesty down everyone's throats, I was certain he was toast. Seems not.
This had to happen. I think the biggest failing not just of Republicans, but of the entire right-wing, coservative, American Christian complex, is that we assume it's enough to go up to people and simply say "We're right (no pun intended)", or "Your guy is a quack." That isn't enough. We need to actually show people that "Hope and Change", while necessary, don't pay bills. We have to actually show that we're not against social programs, but that we we prefer "social training wheels rather than social crutches." We must prove that we don't hate women, but rather, that we love humanity.
Much like the liberal/Democrats learned in 2004, dislike of a guy doesn't equal actually coming up with something better. And they did learn that lesson. Obama for all his socialist agenda, inspires people. I listen to him, and I can feel the pride he has in the country. He cares about America.
And maybe that's what people want. Maybe people will follow a guy they don't fully understand, or even trust, as long as they believe he cares.
Well, us honest right-wingers care. Maybe it's time we prove that to the rest of the country.

It was an honor

Let's stop bashing Republicans for that comment. It's not appropriate to do so when we have one talking with us.
