There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations

before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I'd love it if Julian Castro ran; I think he's one of the few Dems who could be the first Latino president. Biden would be nice, but he'd probably lose to a good Republican. (see: good) Warren would be good.
So. The question for '16 would be, does Ryan run? Does Santorum run? Are there any actually good GOP candidates left?
What do you mean by that?

You are implying they're rational.

Well the Latino vote would be guaranteed.
That actually brings up something interesting. Blacks are generally Democratic but they had record turnouts because of Obama which certainly played a part in his victory. What do you think is going to happen to that if we get a white or Latino on the ticket?

Democrats gain supermajority in Calif. Senate
Marco Rubio is probably the best bet for the GOP in 2016. I'd certainly support him to a much greater degree than I did Romney. I wished he'd have run this time around, but I think he knew a bad election year when he saw it. With luck, the 2016 primary race won't be quite as ridiculous.
I'd personally like to Jeb Bush run, but unfortunately his relatives have somewhat sullied the family name.
Did the GOP ever get a supermajority in Georgia?

Nope.
Georgia Republicans miss “supermajorities” by razor-thin margin
Marco Rubio's challenge wouldn't be beating the Democrats. It would be beating the Republican Party.
A Marco vs. Julian campaign would be interesting, if only to see the look of horror on old racist faces as two candidates try to out-Latino each other. The first speech in Spanish would drive 'em nuts.

The Greens ARE NOT a Libertarian party. I think you need to check out their platform: They're not against government intervention at all, particularly where they think it will help ensure a good ecological policy. In fact, they're called the Greens specifically because they're the environmental party. Ensuring that kind of requires government intervention.
The Libertarians are the ones that get the accusations of Randianism, because a lot of them admire or adhere to Objectivist philosophy, and in general want to pursue a path of as little government intervention as possible. To the point that some of them would gladly repeal affirmative action. They're also just as infected with the religious right at this moment as the mainstream Republicans they usually vote for, so that's a huge issue.
Here are their core beliefs:
- Grassroots democracy
- Social justice and equal opportunity
- Ecological wisdom
- Nonviolence
- Decentralization
- Community-based economics
- Feminism and gender equality
- Respect for diversity
- Personal and global responsibility
- Future focus and sustainability
I would classify some of those as Libertarian positions.

I'm honestly expecting Scott Walker and Tim Pawlenty.
