Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

If that's the case you could argue for its retention since Individuals are smart, but people are dumb, panicky animals
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"it amuses me that, by and large, the red states are almost always low on electoral votes. they rely on swing states rather heavily, not that the dems don't, but blue states seem much more populous.
which of course would seem to suggest that living in contact with lots of people, often of varying national backgrounds, and having education that isn't a religious text written by Shepherds in the Arabias tends to breed liberal thinking.

"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Republicans altered her district layout to make it relatively nice and safe for Republican voters.
She won, but it was basically a victory that to a sane person reads "We're watching you, don't piss us off, or else".

Also because the incumbent is a cheating bastard
it just boggles the mind the BS that the ultra conservatives will willingly devour
I feel like there needs to be some sort of penalty for lying on the path to the presidency, why aren't they ever called to task? why don't people lose confidence?

"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Frankly I found Montana's Senate Race to be the most entertaining race in this election.
Mainly because both candidates attempted to show what rugged manly men they were.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016Where are the gubernatorial results?
Last I checked the GOP won at least one more governor's seat. This is not how you prevent gerrymandering, Democrats.
Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this.Governorships are about the only thing you can't gerrymander, at least if all states use direct popular vote election of them (I'm not absolutely sure of this). Though I think you were meaning more about how governors can do a lot of gerrymandering for other elected offices?
A brighter future for a darker age.Huckabee slams GOP on minority outreach
Florida still hasn't been called? Shame, I was hoping to wake up and see Obama had won that too.
So at least Obama is winning the popular vote although it's by a really slim margin. I wonder how bullshit mountain is today.
edit: Yes! Obama is ahead by two percent in the popular vote! Now make it one more and turn Mitt's joke back on him.

Good news from Minnesota, they rejected the constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage.
Bad news is Bachmann has officially won her seat.
