Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I'm glad that Obama's reelected and it's great that he looks like he's got all the momentum in the world, but I just recently watched this clip from The Newsroom and it hit me hard as to how this country is still kinda fucked up sometimes.
What bothers me is that his criticism of the liberal boils down to "You fail a lot," and fails to address the fact that there's been a bigass fucking concerted effort to make sure that the sorts of things liberals want is seen as immoral or destructive or impinging on very poorly defined "Freedom."
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryMeanwhile in North Dakota:
Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016He also praises the past America for going after great technological advances and being paragons of morality. And given that he referenced putting a man on the moon, that likely means he's talking about JFK's era of policy. America was still plauged by Jim Crow (aka segregation) laws, inequality, unfair laws, abuse of police power, etc. Oh, and there's also the fact that we were one of the last Western nations to abolish slavery, let alone give actual equal footing to other minorities.
EDIT: Wow, talk about getting ninja'ed! The post I made was in refferance to the video posted above about that's professor's rant, BTW.

The GOP incumbent just won the Nevada Senate Election.
And Montana's election is too close to call.
Obama: 49% of the vote, 303 electors
Romney: 48% of the vote, 206 electors
Your voting system is fucked up. Just sayin'.
Anyway, interesting to notice how all the "red" states (except Alaska) form one big continuous bloc, while the "blue" states (except Hawaii) are divided into four smaller blocs (West Coast, Northeast, New Mexico-Colorado and Florida).
