Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Well, I just cussed Trump out... Truly a good day (even though I didn't get my homework done...Oh, fuck me!).
My day is complete at this point - now if only South carolina would become a little more progressive toward things like marijuana and gay marriage, I'm sure this state wouldn't suck so much ass overall.
But, to be honest with myself, I'm not going back to NJ anytime soon... At least not until it gets better leadership overall.

This is where I, the Vampire Mistress, proudly reside: http://liberal.nationstates.net/nation=nova_nacioIn Alaska, our courts decreed that the right to privacy is strong enough that it trumped the existing laws against personal possession and use of marijuana. Doesn't affect federal enforcers, but the feds have better things to do than to chase people for possession (unless they want to harass someone, etc).
Interestingly, when someone brought suit on that charge to challenge a village's dry law, the court said that, unlike marijuana, alcohol is a dangerous substance that can be prohibited as a matter of policy.
Back on topic: Congratulations, Mr. Obama.
@Ira: I too agree with making (or moving to) another thread, but let me just clear up a misunderstanding:
Immediate threat. Secondhand smoking building up over time is not an immediate threat; people being impaired on the spot is.
Also: I think a fair thing to do is to handle marijuana/hallucinogen control similarly to gun control.

Didn't Romney fail to write a concession speech? He must have had his speechwriters busy these last few hours.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI'd suggest actually trying pot a few times before judging it too harshly. I've had a lot of bad shit happen while drunk but nothing while high.
