The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Um, actually Maine is the only confirmed vote yes. Maine is the first to enact marriag eby ballot, after voting it down before.

Maryland hasn't finished counting yet.

Fox basically just told Rove to STFU. Politely. Live.

Obama reelected. Gay marriage passed in for all states that had it on its ballot. Marijuana legalized in at least one state. Rove, Trump, and Fox in total meltdown mode.

Plus Puerto Rico is set to become a state.

I personally don't like marijuana and wish people wouldn't use it but I don't feel it should be criminalized. Just pointing out, I feel the same way about alcohol and cigarettes too.

[up][up]Really? Who said it?

[up]They're under consideration. They could be rejected.

It looks like Washington State is also set to legalize marijuana use.

I personally think it should be at least heavily regulated so it doesn't threaten public safety; I don't mind banning it. I'm afraid of people treating it like ordinary tobacco when it's more like alcohol. Also people tend to submit badly written laws for it.

However, I do sympathize with people saying that penalties are too severe.

Which states legalized gay marriage?

In RWBY, every girl is Best Girl.

Oh, tomorrow's meeting is going to be interesting, all right.

Well, that's it for me today. Good night, folks.

Also I noticed this:

192 Republican seats 140 Democratic seats

When are the rest being called?

Rove is a really sore loser. If you watch Bush's Brain, he takes losing very badly, even early in his career.

Anyone have a proper live stream? Fox news bugged out and I can't find CNN's actual stream, just crowd reaction BS.

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?

The death penalty will stay? Too bad. I was kind of hoping that would go away.

I wish my state allowed you to vote on things like that.
