Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Ohio just called for Obama giving him above the magic 270 electoral college votes needed for him to retain the Presidency. According to the BBC anyway. It seems that the auto industry bailout "bribe" as the Republicans called it has swung it for him. Well, shit. Attack a popular program that the workforce relied on to keep them in jobs and expect them to vote for you? Ha fucking ha ha ha on that.
Democrats never won that way, though. And if Obama loses that vote, we're going to see "the people have spoken" as icing on the complaints towards the president cake for the next four years. We're also going to shake up the electoral college again.

This is going to be a historic election.
I'm going to make a prediction:
If Romney does actually keep the popular vote, expect Republican held states to attempt to start an electoral system for the states, in order to diminish the results of the largely democratic cities, and favor the republican rural areas...
Meaning, you'd have to take X number of counties in Ohio in order to actually get Ohio's electoral votes.
I forgot how to embed videos so

California will make up a lot of the difference in the popular vote.
