The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

But charter schools are just another type of public school.

Yeah, but they're privately run which makes all the difference, you plebe. Look at FedEx.

Alright. Alaska is still out, but that's all that's left. FL is 90% in, with a slight Obama lead. This is where Nate Silver's polling comes in.

Obama wins Cali. The curtain draws to a close on Twitt Romney.

[down] I know, but the two aren't comparable anyway. FedEx is the go-to example of the advantages of privatization, but that's like saying Starbucks is better than the Department of Energy.

@johnnyfrog: That's kinda a bad example considering that Fed Ex consistently delivers much faster, better service while remaining financially solvent.

Or was that your point? My sarcasm detector is off this late at night.

I also attended a charter school, and it offered far better education than the local public school did.

Somebody called Oregon for Obama. It's wrapping up, folks.

#37917: Nov 6th 2012 at 8:05:14 PM

Grayson sponsored the Public Option Act, remained staunchly anti-war in Iraq and Afghanistan, voted for regulation of tobacco products and calls for campaign finance reform, where he wants to reduce corporate spending, if not remove it entirely.

So he's a terrible person who votes for things you like. Is there any reason then for you expect conservatives to condemn Akin?

To be fair, you could have called the west coast for Obama yesterday.
