Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote? If Puerto Rico is approved for statehood, the US will switch to a flag with 51 stars which has already been designed just in case. The Senate will expand to 102 Senators adding two from Puerto Rico, and we will have to reorganize the House to account for Puerto Rico's population since the total number of Representatives is fixed at 435. Until then, the Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico becomes its voting representative increasing the total to 436 until the election after the census that accounts for Puerto Rico as we did with Alaska and Hawaii when they were admitted. Puerto Rico will also vote in two Senators for a truncated first terms to represent them in the Senate.

Here ya go.
Grizzly: Grayson sponsored the Public Option Act, remained staunchly anti-war in Iraq and Afghanistan, voted for regulation of tobacco products and calls for campaign finance reform, where he wants to reduce corporate spending, if not remove it entirely.
Akin? Staunchly anti-abortion, voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and supports the right to bear arms as per donations by the NRA. Also called abortion providers "terrorists" and alleged that it was "common practice" for abortion providers to perform abortions on women who were not actually pregnant
That's why I prefer Grayson winning.
