The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

And Romney is apparently running out of areas in Florida that normally favor Republicans. The longer he takes to close the gap the worse shape he is in. And if he loses either Ohio or Florida... four more years.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.

Gay Marriage is currently 50% dead tie in my state...

Fun fact: Our library events room is literally less than 100 steps away from this computer, and I can see people gathering to watch the CNN coverage (this room was where the presidential debates were shown). Problem is, I can't even hear what they're saying, and the coverage is rather boring. I was there for a bit and came back here because I get better coverage online and in this thread.

On a rather amusing note, results from my county in NC show that rival court of appeals candidates Linda Mc Gee and David Robinson both attained exactly 4,509 votes. [lol]

Okay Gay Marriage in Maryland has been leading for a while, but I'm predicting a positive.

It's 51% for now.

What happened to Nevada? I've seen nothing on them.

@Earl: Then let us hope Minnesota gets called for Obama.

About 15 minutes to California.

I'm just realised. If Obama picks of Colorado, Iowa and Nevada then he doesn’t need anything but the West Coast and Hawaii. He could win without Florida OR Ohio, despite leading in both.

[up] Huff Post have already called Minn for Obama

[up][up][up] If I'm correct, Nevada's not announcing their results until 100% of the votes in the state have been counted.

Nooo, looks like both of Georgia's amendments are going to pass. And Jack Kingston won. This is like the exact opposite of of Christmas.

12 minutes until the daily show live stream. Recently lost comedy network so here's hoping my "patch" into 'merican stream on comedy central works.

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?

Grizzly: Grayson was trying to defeat his political rival. Akin was basically insulting rape victims. I don't see why you're so hung up over Grayson in particular. He's was fine apart from that one moment, whereas I don't see a single good trait from Akin.

Grayson deliberately lied, and continued to insist that his offensive lie was true when even MSNBC called BS. Akin made a stupid, offensive statement and then apologized. There's a big difference there. And that's not at all his only incident: among other things, he falsely accused the same opponent in the same race of being a draft dodger, despite having never served in the military himself. He also called one of Ben Bernanke's advisers a whore (which he did eventually apologize for, though he initially stood by it even under criticism from fellow democrats). He's called the delay in passing Obamacare a "holocaust".

This is a guy that Anthony Weiner called "one fry short of a Happy Meal". If you are going to expect me to join you in calling out GOP BS, you need to not be so forgiving of your own side of the fence.
