The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Three Justices are in their 70s, all of whom are pro-choice.

44% of the vote has Obama over Romney by two points.

Well the next group of polls just closed. We should be getting a wave of electoral votes soon.

Romney wins in Texas and a bunch of other states, to nobody's great surprise. Obama wins in Michigan, New York, and New Jersey.

[up][up]Are you serious?

When we say "it wasn't significantly different", I have to wonder if we're including "children of immigrants" and "homosexual servicemembers" and "the chronically uninsured" in "we"?

Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this.

Two would give us a Democratic majority in the Supreme Court with 6-3.

Only if the two were conservative judges. Only one of the prospective judges could be considered as such(Kennedy the "iffy" one in retiring)... The other(Ginsburg) is democratic leaning...

[up][up][up]Well then they'd just be holding the line which is good enough for me.

edit: Okay I just saw something that said Nebraska goes to Romney and I had a heart attack because I thought it said Nevada at first. Nevada is likely Obama so him losing that wouldn't be good.

Ok, I need to leave now, at least for about an hour.

I really hope that when I come back both Florida and US will have elected Obama.

Remember Obama will undoubtedly win California, Oregon, and Washington.

That's like 80 electoral votes.
