Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

X8 Really? Cus I'm sitting here and seeing states getting called with 0% votes counted (Illinois has been called blue on Huff Post from 0 votes in).

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranWith 35% of the precincts reporting, Obama is leading Romney 51/49 in Florida.
Cause those states normally do go that way with votes, and news stations want to say IWASRIGHTIWASRIGHTIWASRIGHTIWASRIGHTIWASRIGHTIWASRIGHTIWASRIGHTIWASRIGHTIWASRIGHTIWASRIGHTIWASRIGHT.

I think after Dewey Defeats Truman
incident back in June, the news outlets are trying to be more careful not to report incorrectly.

Do you really want the US to be any more like the Roman Empire?
Anyway, at this point it's looking extremely likely to end in an Obama win. I can already see the panic beginning on the betting markets as people try to dump Romney bets and grab Obama bets.

BBC talking about Romney: guy is a Mormon and doesn't smoke, doesn't drink tea or coffee, doesn't drink alcohol. I wouldn't trust a guy like that with a public office. A politician has to get drunk every now and then, just like journalists or actors. Can't trust them otherwise.
