Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

@37468 (because by the time this post is made there won't be enough arrow in the world)
It's still crazy though. I'm seeing states called one way or the other with 0 votes in. I mean, come on!

: Them being Democratic states was a point of concern, actually. Imagine if the election went on anyway when those states were unable to get the votes; that could have a real impact.
Also, Obama won Connecticut by 91%... wow.

I'm just gonna assume Obama's chances are fucked at this point, this early lead romney has almost everywhere just doesn't bode well.
Have early votes been counted yet?
Mourdock is also somehow ahead in Indiana,.......I have a bad feeling about this
@Ace: If Romney does win Texas, I wouldn't be suprised, but I decided last week to take a look at the counties which werre won or lost by Democrats.
Notably, every single Democrat (even Kerry) since Clinton's first run back in '92 has taken 15 out of 253 counties. 13 of those counties were south of San Antonio and along the Mexican border (the two outliers were El Paso county in the western panhandle, and Jefferson county, the southern most county along the Louisiana border.
Obama, back in '08, also took (among others) the counties with Texas' largest 3 cities (Harris, Bexar, and Dallas counties) and Travis county which is where Austin is located.
If he gains any counties this year, I'll be surprised. Especially, if its my home county (Galveston).
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Well, the predictions
from Huffington showed 54-41 for Obama, which is safe blue but still nowhere close to 91%. The predictions were updated just this morning, too.

Okay... Seriously, this shit needs to stop.
I don't doubt Obama won the state, and I don't doubt he'll have won by a lot(more than 20 percent). But STOP using percentages that are coming in with fewer than 15% of the precincts reporting... No one will be taking a state 90-10... At most it'll be 65-35...

26% of Indiana reported, with Donnelly in the lead at the moment.

I now go by Graf von Tirol.I'm wondering if Texas's results are going to have any surprises. I know Democrats are on the rise, but I'm wondering by how much and how fast right now. And if there'll be significant enough numbers to actually get people's notice this time around.
Not likely a surprise Obama victory, but maybe some other Federal/State Senate/House surprises sure. It has been slowly going bluer. Slowly.
