The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Its one thing to complain.

ITS ANOTHER TO CLAIM THAT A F*CKING MURAL IS SUPPRESSING YOUR ABILITY TO VOTE!

Clearly Obama's image invokes his psychic ability to influence voters.

Yeah that's pretty stupid overall.

I still think it should be removed but whatever.

I got no less than ten Republican robocalls today. None for Obama. Even if I were leaning Republican, those might make me vote Democrat out of spite. Sheesh.

Was it a swing state?

I still think Obama isn't gonna win. Maybe because I'm a pessimist.

@Bestof: Thanks for the info a few pages back. The most interesting thing for me this election is seeing how Nate's predictions work out. If he's as accurate as last time around I can finally cancel out that "lucky break" voice in my head.

What Triv said. I still think it's a non-issue even if it was Romney's face plastered all about but I can guarantee you this thread would be alive with indignation if it was Romney's mug on the side of a wall.

Also, who the fuck murals the president? Lamest mural ever.

Indiana used to be democrat? Huh.

MSNBC reports that Obama has 3 electoral votes while Romney has 19.

3:19 so far. None of those results are surprising though so it's nothing worrying.

It's actually prohibited to have campaign material within a certain distance of polling places, so it's not completely out there.

I'm worried the long lines at the polls will discourage voting in the future.

It already has in Colorado... From a certain point of view... tongue

We had a record number of people turning in mail-in ballots. Roughly one-third of the state, in fact(compared to 1/5th of the state 4 years ago)...

Note that Silver called Indiana for Romney, so if you're basing your optimism for Obama on Silver's prediction you haven't lost anything yet.

Exit polls and other indicators seem to show a 49-49 split between Romney and Obama in Virginia. Silver said it'd go to Obama. So here's a tough one.
