Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Well, this essay:

Notes that what you posted about Romney isn't really all that new per say to the Republican Party's machines and talking heads and major magazines. Since roughly the 70s, the Republican Party's money raisers have pretty much allied themselves with financing through Pyramid Schemes and Ponzi Scheme fundraising methods.
(Which does explain much about the moral dishonesty with the current Republican pundit stock)

This pretty much sums up my position regarding American politics.
I'm pretty sure that if the weather stops Democrats from voting in the Northeast, it'll also stop enough of the Republicans that it'll still be an Obama victory in the Left-leaning states. And even if the storm manages to only affect Democrats, without knowing the exact figures of the ratio between Democrats and Republicans there, I imagine that the early votes from Democrats by now would be enough to secure at least some of the states even if the storm somehow targets Democrats only on voting day.

Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.Yeah, I don't see this next storm mattering much, except that it'll make an already-miserable segment of the country even more miserable.
Duly noted.

Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.
I don't think Crosses the Line Twice is a good trope to reference in this particular case. It's not funny when there are actual victims.
so the latest new akin ad.
"Vote Akin, because when Romney wins, we need someone in the house who will help Romney save American Jobs via Romney's plans to create jobs. Claire Mc Caskill wont work bipartisanly but Akin will!"

... Election postponement/rescheduling is done at a state level. Usually by the Governor or other state official...
There are provisions in the federal law(the one that requires federal elections for President/Congress be done on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November) that allow for states to reschedule the day for those ballots to be cast, so long as the result is submitted by December 10th(when the Electoral College meets)... But such rescheduling has never happened before.
New York delaying/rescheduling could be important because NYC is the primary reason why the state goes blue every year, as NYC holds half of the state's population...

Really, unless it's a swing state that's afflicted with the damage, it is probably not going to have an impact. This type of situation where people have trouble getting their votes in through no fault of their own is exactly the kind of situation the Electoral College is designed to circumvent.
Wizard Needs Food BadlyUnless... you know that planetesimal that might have impacted the Earth to knock part of it into orbit to create the Moon? Jones.
EDIT: Whoops... wondered where that wandered off to... problem solved.
Yup: still not firing on all cylinders, here, yet. <blushes furiously> I'll leave it here, rather than do a total redact, or others' posts will make zero sense...
In short: wrong sodding tab.

Republicans in the N.E. always seem to be the good kind. The only Republican elsewhere outside of the N.E. that actually has any resemblance to moderation is Richard Burr, who voted for the repeal of DADT. He's still conservative, though, just he is willing to vote for what's right sometimes.

Oh gosh yes, this is one of the weirdest things ever. My dad "worked" for a company based several states away, while actually working for a local company, because the local company outsourced the hiring and HR to the out-of-state company.
