Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I have to say. Watching Daily show.
Even if he's just positioning for a 2016 run, it was damned satisfying to see that clip of the Fox and Friends crew asking Chris Christie if he was going to tour the damaged areas of New Jersey with Romney and Christie's response amounted to the slightly politer version of "I dont give two fucks about Romney right now. shut up about the goddamned election."
I don't trust those polls, but this is (almost, ALMOST) good news... That, ![]()

and semi-seeing Christie disown Romney like that, but I know alterior motives out in the open when I see them from any Republican of his ilk, IMHO...

Even if it isnt, I imagine everything from how he has stopped giving fucks about politics for the second and how even big name republicans like Christie are peraising how he's ignoring red tape to get aid to people fast..its probably going to make him look damned presidential.
True.
But even if the motives might be less virtuous than I want to hope, its still hilarious how the second they started looking for a chance to promote Romney in a crisis Christie just had this look of utter "really? Really? You want to plug Romney now? While half my state is underwater and I'm buried in trying to fix the state and look like a competent governor? Really? Fuck you all." on his face.

Spoken for truth. But Christie's somewhat extremist views have me voting against him either way. For once, however, it's good hearing about/seeing him give a fuck about HIS STATE and NOT his party...
For the record, with how I'm even coming in to talk about this noise - I want it over. NOW... No matter who wins. I'm staying educated and armed for any shit that goes down, especially in Conservative-dominated (yet somewhat sane, for now, anyway) South Carolina...

Damn Straight!
@ Lost Anarchist
Christie probably is one of the most moderate politicians in the Republican Party.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016
So... Why all the reluctance to have those things be made legal in his state, is my question - All I seem to keep hearing about is him supporting some unfortunately extremist Repug ideals in lockstep with most of the Tea Party's worst, especially considering both the affordable healthcare situation and LGBT situation winding down in his state...
Also, I don't trust Wikipedia all that much, unless to help with my homework where necessary, and even that's a stretch...

This is where I, the Vampire Mistress, proudly reside: http://liberal.nationstates.net/nation=nova_nacioJust to draw away from Romney for a moment — It's possible that Christie is still planning on a 2016 ticket. If Romney wins, it'll never happen. But by dismissing the libertarianism of the far right, he makes his bones with Daddy Obama and leaves the door open for a future Presidential run. Smart and sensible.
Just floating that theory.
I'm a skeptical squirrel![]()

So he (Christie) has no choice but to act against the people, then, if that's the case... Just more reason for everyone to be disappointed in something, then.
I don't see Christie as leader material in the near future, getting pushed around like this!

Yeah... I wasn't feeling what I said at first, period (And thank GOD; it sounded oh so fucking wrong IMHO) - it's too late for me to be conducting in this, honestly - I just can't help but wonder some things regarding these recent turns of events having to say something about it, anyway)...

This is where I, the Vampire Mistress, proudly reside: http://liberal.nationstates.net/nation=nova_nacioAbout Christie, his actions right now are pretty much guaranteeing him the governor's position again in New Jersey come next year's election, unless somewhere along the way he fucks up the recovery effort or something. Even my mom, who always rants about republicans and the way Christie acts like a bully (I agree with her for the most part, but she tends to get more worked up about it than I do), admitted that it was good to see him stick it to Fox News like that.
Even if I don't like the guy for various reasons, in a situation like this I can respect him for what he's doing and how he's leading. And plus, little kids were happy when they found out he postponed Halloween until Monday, so they still have an opportunity to do trick-or-treating, so that made me smile a bit.

xkcd shows how the U.S. House Republicans are dominated by far-right-wingers, and how are there dramatically more centrist Democrats than centrist Republicans.

We haven't set a date in stone. I think we can use this one for the rest of 2012, probably. Then we can have a "2013 in American politics" thread - you know, assuming that there still is a world out there after December.
