Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

my old CS professor on the Republican party
◊
He left out Fox News and Limbaugh creating an entire generation that believes an alternate set of facts. People don't just believe them because it makes sense in relation to their prejudices. As far as they know it's the truth because they've never heard any differently from an "unbiased" source.

that's the millions on marketing and PR people.
his fb posts are about 1/2 funny pictures from reddit and 1/2 political comments/articles, so I'm sure he mentioned Fox News specifically somewhere already.

I don't fully trust any study done on racism (especially if its done on the Internet). Between the Spiral of silence
and the fact that there are varying degrees of racism, I doubt we will ever get a truly accurate statistic.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016Obama makes "birther" joke in N.H.
^ and that's why I don't like evoting. Commuting fraud on paper or in bits is equally hard. It's just that doing it in bits is easier to do on a large scale.

That was posted earlier, with the general consensus being "If this were real, he probably would have gone to a more respectable source, but can someone crunch those numbers anyway?" And then no one did.
I find it slightly confusing as to what, exactly, that article proves...
It sure as hell isn't "voting machines are being used to rig elections" due to the fact that the trend is across the board in all 50 states... Since some states don't use voting machines(Oregon for example), I don't see how such a thing is possible, unless the idea is that every voting method was rigged in favor of one party...
Despite being a poll worker, I have no idea how voting machines work.
I know how to sign in and register voters in the proper precinct, and I know how to instruct proper use of the machines, but I don't know the inner workings of the machines.
However, all I can say is, I hope to God Dennis Campbell is wrong!
This whole "stealing elections through e-voting" is easily the most annoying topic ever. It's not nefarious programming that flips the vote - it's poor programming of the touch screen. The article states that Republican cadidates receive a 10% "fraud bump" - however, e-voting results are exactly the same as paper ballot results. And it's implying that Democrats win landslides on a regular basis. You know, this idea that we are all secretly winning but forces against us are preventing it from happening reminds me of this.
Get off the subject. It's not real. It's the left-wing's birther.

Please tell me those polls in that link were made up by some right-wing spin jockeys... Otherwise, I'm going to have to go leave for Canada now!

The thing is, the e-voting machine fraud is a completely made up conspiracy theory. It's a touch screen that isn't sensitive enough.
Focus on actual voter fraud - such as the Voter ID and throwing away registration forms. A voting machine isn't turning elections for the GOP and it's a childish conspiracy theory.
They're made up by a guy reweighting polls because nobody he knows agrees with Obama. Here's a site that cares about accuracy.

Reading how they conducted that study I get the distinct impression my parents would likely be labelled racists. I might as well now that I think about it.
