Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016Okay does anyone know what this is in reference to? It seems like a biased asshole just ranting and making stuff up but I'm curious if there's an actual story behind this.
I don't know much about British news sources outside of the BBC, though. It seems accurate, just kind of biased.
It's the Daily Fail, best to take what it says with a pinch of salt.
Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite.![]()
I think they might be telling the truth (although probably from a biased perspective).

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016Okay there's no source except hearsay and the place he was interviewed is incredibly suspect. Then you have to take into account the mother's experiences and how different they sound. This sounds like a man that hated Obama and co to begin with and allowed that hatred to color his memories of the meeting. Surely his wife wouldn't speak fondly of the meeting if these allegations were true.

Usually if someone is said to have big balls, the implication is that they're brave. This would be a good thing to say about a soldier, assuming that all parties involved know what is meant by the comment. Thus the question "did your son always have balls the size of cue balls?" is a roundabout, for some probably hilarious way of saying "I think your son was exceptionally brave."
Ninja'd.

Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur....
Then why are people yelling at Biden if this is a compliment?
This also brought up something else I'd like to mention. I wish the GOP would stop politicizing Benghazi. It is getting really fucking tiring that they're trying to spread the narrative of Obama lying about...something. Seriously what is he even supposed to be covering up? That there weren't enough guards there? That's the Republicans fault from what I can tell. Is it that the video didn't cause the attack? From what I hear the attack happened during a protest on the video so it's certainly a reasonable assumption in the beginning.
I find it interesting that the article doesn't confirm whether or not the mother heard Biden say this and what her reaction was. If she did hear it she must not have been bothered given her opinion of the meeting and if she didn't hear it I honestly have a feeling the father just fabricated this story to attack Biden. Really this just sounds like a disgruntled citizen that got annoyed over an imagined insult and ran to the nearest rightwing nutjob he could get to, in this case Glenn Beck.

Serocco:...
I'm trying to process why this would surprise you at all. This doesn't even seem like something that would need to be pointed out.
Completion: Admittedly I don't know much about what Biden does or doesn't say but if you feel this is an accurate reflection of him then I'll accept the story as true.
I still wish we were given the mother's view on this comment but I can see how it would be taken the wrong way.

It might convince some people that are sympathetic to LGBT people and were on the fence about who to vote for. That's likely not a huge number but with such a close election every little bit helps.
