Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I don't know much about Goode but based on his position in this chart
I have a feeling I'd hate him more than Romney.
Apparently it's where you agree with all the other candidates. Except for Virgil Goode.
Main candidates debate: pages and pages of discussion.
Third party debate: less than a page.

Main candidates: Have a chance of becoming President
Third party candidates: Have no chance of becoming President
Sad, but true.

Wizard Needs Food BadlyThe best that most 3rd party candidates can hope for in the presidential race is to split the vote for one candidate or the other. Most projections had Ron Paul doing that to Romney.
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryHe's to the left of Virgil Goode, but to the right of what's his face who I suddenly can't remember the name of.
He's more well known, mostly due to his anti-(drug) war stances which lure in a lot of liberals and his everything else which lures in a lot of conservatives. And he's the sort of person which garners a lot of "sod both sides, vote 3rd party!" votes because he incorporates that rhetoric into his own. He's the guy which everyone's heard of but no one can be quite sure why.
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryGary Johnson, that's him.
Johnson is pro-gay rights and other things. Ron Paul feels it should be left up to the states. In addition, he has a lot of neo-nazi friends.
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryFor those who don't want to hear him speak: "“I believe that life begins at conception,” he said during a debate in New Albany, Indiana. “The only exception I have, to have an abortion, is in that case of the life of the mother. I’ve struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize that life is that gift from god. And even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.”
Emphasis mine.

Its not that Goode isn't a good public speaker, its that his accent is so damn thick.
