Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Watch Arnold Schwartzenegger's recent appearance in the Daily Show. He promoted and signed policies in favour of green energy and stem cell research when he was Governor of California. He says that he's a Republican because he's a fiscal conservative, but that he'll always vote for what he thinks is right if there's a conflict between that and the party line.
Back to the debate and polls:

What part of Arnie cutting education left and right and adding more to the prison system do you not understand?
He's not horribly socially conservative, but he's still there.
Oh in comparison to the regressionists we face now he looks progressive, but a can of tuna looks progressive to the regressionists.
He only took those liberal policies because he'd be recalled otherwise.Just like Gray Davis got forced to the right, but then when the inevitable happened because of his Obama-esque style of caving in,...he got recalled.
@Kostya
What I meant was, we here in the South who deal with this anywhere, need to stay aware and angry about it! Just enough to do something about it, too.

Tomu: He's saying bring back the horses.
How much power do the National Committees have anyway?
EDIT: 4 years from now all anyone will remember of these debates will be Big Bird, Binders full of Women, Horses & Bayonets, and Biden laughing like a mad Hyena.

This is where I, the Vampire Mistress, proudly reside: http://liberal.nationstates.net/nation=nova_nacioAfter the debates, I have to agree with this statement from Page on Nation States, regarding the debates. Rmemember, I'm only agreeing with someone else on this:
Here is my analysis:
Obama wiped the floor with Romney. In all actuality, the media will for the most part spin it as a mild Obama win lacking overall significance, except for Fixed News who will sob and piss and moan that Benghazi wasn't the entire hour and a half.
I don't see a huge surge for Obama, but I do see the polls leveling off as they currently are and Romney not gaining anymore ground. I believe Obama will go into election day with a few points advantage in Ohio across most of the polls and that he will decisively win in Ohio, Nevada, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and New Hampshire. Beyond this, even if Romney takes the rest, it won't matter.
Overall, despite 3/4 debates being the victories of Team Obama, the entirety still favors Romney because of the first dismal failure on Obama's part. There is nothing Obama can do to take back the solid hour and a half Romney was able to get away with outlandish lies.
As a side note, I seriously believe that the Romney campaign's strategy is "The Big Lie" and I think it is actually working, but I still see a narrow Obama victory at the end of the road.
This is where I, the Vampire Mistress, proudly reside: http://liberal.nationstates.net/nation=nova_nacioDo you know that Obama personally authorizes every single drone strike? The New York Times did a 6 thousand word story on it, which they called the "Kill List". The Obama admina ctually leaked that to the New York Times. The Senate wanted to do an inquiry over why the Obama admin leaked it in the first place.

I would kinda be worried if the president didn't authorize every Drone Strike. Because that would probably mean some general was taking them for a joy ride.
But people we have a Drone Thread. Use it!
And the 'Kill List' is old news. I think John Mc Cain claimed that the Obama administration intentionally leaked it to make Obama look good.

CNN is cult of centrism central among the major news outlets. I don't see why this shocks you.
