Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

There's no question that the drone strikes have been effective at weakening the terrorists, and also no question that it makes ordinary civilians hate the US more, with good reason. The question is which effect is more important and that's a difficult situation.

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?Obama won that, honestly - even if it sucked ass...

This is where I, the Vampire Mistress, proudly reside: http://liberal.nationstates.net/nation=nova_nacioOn the double strike funerals, cause damn this thread is moving fast. Curse my perfectionism.
Sources? If true, I'd say it's less an argument against the use of drones, and more against how they're being used. I'd certainly appreciate more discretion. My bleeding liberal heart would rather have 10 terroists get away than have 1 civilian death. (From both a humanist, and realpolitik perspective.)
However, no matter if you're a soldier in the heat of battle, bursting through a door, and accidentally killing some poor kid holding a gun-shaped object, a sniper kneeling on a hill, trying to pick the correct target, or a man sitting in an air-conditioned bunker, piloting a robot drone, I understand that making the right call can be tough.

I think this was a victory for Obama, especially if a significant number of viewers caught Romney lying or believed Obama when he cited examples of Romney's flip-flopping.
I was especially impressed with Obama's precision strikes against Romney's policies, such as the one about Romney's foreign policy being that of the 1980s, his social policy from the 50s and economic policy from the 20s.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur. And Yet Romney's still going to get votes... Dammit.
I said this already, too.

Oh, sorry. Apparently Governor Romney led a blind teacher straight into a closed door when he was a student. I thought it was commonly known.
