Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Incidentally, it's looking like there will be a government shutdown tomorrow; Trump has yet to sign the omnibus spending + COVID relief bill that would stop the shutdown, and unfortunately he can effectively pocket veto any other legislation that the current Congress would pass.
(In theory Trump could be impeached and removed from office so that Pence could sign legislation, in practice I can't imagine enough Republicans going along with that for it to work.)
Edit:
And apparently he's might actually be doing something, but I'll believe it when it actually happens.

The bomber being a conspiracy nut fixated on 5G does fit most of the evidence. I'll be very curious to find out how this guy managed to build a car bomb without anyone noticing.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"600, a 2000 one was never passed.
I think it passed the House (though not be unanimous consent as was initially tried) but never got a vote in the Senate.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranDid it not get to a full vote? Since I’d assume it would pass a full vote considering the Dem majority.
Are Dems planning to pass it with a full vote just to show Mitch up?
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranMan, if I were a Trumpeteer I'd be livid at this.
Trump: "I want Americans to have $2000!"
Dems: "We want that too! And we'll gladly create a bill to give it to them!"
Reps: "... We're never gonna support this. $600 or bust, Trump."
Trump: "... Yeah okay, 600."
Of course to Trumpeteers Trump can never do anything wrong, so they'll just praise the Bill he was spitting on weeks ago and say Trump is a savior and somehow Democrats are the bad guys.
And the copyright streaming stuff is now law. I just hope is not abused nor leads to censorship. Got 2011 flashbacks all over, when a similar bill (which BTW was introduced by Amy Klobuchar) was considered but never voted on, and caused mass hysteria all over the Internet (there were even people claiming Netflix would be shutted down if it passed) which basically ruined the year and my mental health. The fact that Tillis probably proposed the bill as a reward to Hollywood companies for donating to his campaign doesn't help. I know that there are more important things than that in the US, but can't help feeling just a bit worried.

Any and all laws can be fought in court; even laws that are settled can be brought back to courts with a new angle (Like Republicans attempts to destroy Obamacare, or a more positive example of Plessy v. Ferguson to Brown v. Board of Education).
However with our more Conservative, Pro-Big Business court system and judges I wouldn't be surprised if this law is ultimately found Constitutionally legal.

I feel like I called something like this about a week ago.
I guess the best thing we can do is hope this costs Republicans the runoffs in Georgia (not holding my breath).
i'm tired, my friend

People also claim wi-fi gives cancer so there's that.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.
