Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

At this rate Donald's gonna run out of people to pardon!
"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnWell, the Fuhrer did say (paraphrased) if you lie, might as well go all the way and lie big.
And it is so hilarious to see the party of law and order, pardoning people left and right.
At least I think Michael Cohen is not going to receive a pardon. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.
I bet he's just doing this to "enrage the libtards". By making himself and everyone who aided him Karma Houdinis, he's just gonna smile when these criminals gets off scot-free, or even rewarded for their actions, in a twisted inversion of karma. This guy is a Smug Snake Up To Eleven.
"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnSo. About the stimulus bill. Trump's threatening to not sign it. If he vetoes it, it'll go back to Congress and (hopefully) get enough votes to override his veto. But could he just sit on it and refuse to sign or veto until his term is up, and if he does, could [[strikeMcConnell]] the Senate then withdraw it so the Republicans can attempt to foist blame on the Democrats?
The president cannot sit on a bill, actually; according to the Constitution (If any Bill shall not be returned by the President within ten days (Sundays excepted) after it shall have been presented to him, the same shall be a Law, in like manner as if he had signed it, unless the Congress by their Adjournment prevent its return, in which case it shall not be a Law.) if Congress is in session when he sits on a bill the bill becomes law automatically ... unless it isn't in session then the bill fails ("pocket veto")
I don't think this ploy would work for Senate Republicans, anyway.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanTo me, the whole situation with the spending bill veto almost feels like Trump is attempting to ruin the holidays for the Senators and Representatives. I don't think he's stupid enough not to realize that Congress has the votes to override his veto... but they have to be in session to do that, and some have publicly stated that they're willing to stay in session to do so.
To be fair, I don't think the above is the only reason for the veto, nor even the primary one, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had crossed his mind. The timing's just too perfect.
Congress is holding itself open, yeah. Specifically for this situation.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"House Republicans block the Dems attempt to pass 2,000 direct payments.
Goes to show you there's an entire party of Ebenezer Scrooges running around this Christmas.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."An argument commonly brought up by some Trump supporters regarding their supposed revolution should Biden be inaugurated is that because Democratic govenrors and RIN Os endorsed public violence through the BLM protests, they should be allowed to stage an armed insurrection as well "to defend the constitution" since the Democrats and the BLM or Antifa did it first.
Is there a grain of truth to this? Was the BLM/Antifa really responsible for instigating some of the worst riots and looting in the US last summer, while the DNC didn't condemn them at all or even supported them?
Scaled seeker![]()
There's really no point in giving republicans the benefit of the doubt when they make such claims.
They sure love portraying some boogeyman about how everyone's turning their backs on the Orange Lord (not the least of which are the supposedly all-powerful BLM/Antifa terorrists). Some of them are even saying that Mitch Mc Connell will be hanging next for even considering passing that stimulus bill.
Scaled seeker

Ok, so classic lying by omission by the Trumpster side again. I was almost 99% sure of this, but thanks for the confirmation!
