Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Well, given that Trump is the one who vetoed the legislation because it doesn't give enough of a boost to people, and the Democrats are in a rare moment of agreement with him, that leaves the GOP holding the bag.
Edit: Nix that, the bill Trump vetoed was the Defense Spending bill
, likely for the fact that it didn't repeal the Section 930(?) that would have punished Twitter for censoring him.

Have you tried searching the Internet for more information? A cursory Google search could bring something up.
It might be a better use of your time then standing around, waiting for somebody to explain things to you, if you would forgive my rudeness.

Was that the larger relief bill you mentioned or something else entirely?
I guess it doesn't matter. I'm forced to assume that whenever trumps want a boost to people, he specifically meant white people specifically. And that he would veto anything that tries to help those outside that demographic.

No, in this case he pretty explicitly wanted to remove protections for social media companies regarding user-generated content as a means to punish Twitter for daring to fact-check him. The man is that petty.
He also lumped in China at the last minute, probably as a dual means of making it look more like a valid objection and to muddy the waters further regarding the Russia data hack.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"
x2 He also vetoed it because it changes the names of Military Bases that use Confederate "Heroes" like Robert E. Lee.
If the House and/or Senate fail to over ride this veto because Republicans are afraid of Trump, I can't see how Active Military members don't start becoming more Democratic, especially in Georgia and the rest of 2021.

...Then wait for more articles to pop up. They can only write so much in so much time.
I'm sorry but this doesn't seem to be getting you anywhere so it's best to put it away for now.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Trump didn’t threaten to veto it because of the copyright but, he doesn’t care about that and it’s not as big a deal as the actual government budget or the COVID relief.
Also he hasn’t vetoed the bill with the copyright in it, he’s vetoed a different bill, the defence one.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranIt requires a 2/3 vote, however, which is why I'd normally never expect it but this was passed with a veto-proof majority and there's less reason to go along with Trump now.
it has? I know he's vetoed a couple things but I don't recall ever hearing of them being overridden. No way Trump would have stayed quiet about that.

According to the LA Times [1]
, if Congress overrides his veto, it will be the first time this happened during Trump's presidency.
So, obviously, because it is mostly trending on Twitter, I am going to take this with a grain of salt. There seems to be a supposedly leaked Zoom Call of Joe Biden circling around, where he supposedly says (and I quote)
"This country is doomed... it is doomed. Not just because of african americans, but because by 2040 this country is going to be minority White European."
Here is a link to one of the recordings

Is this genuine?

"If we cannot make progress on racial equity then this country is doomed."
Bolded part is what the person who clipped that conveniently left out. This is from a Zoom call Biden had with civil rights leaders a week or so ago that we discussed earlier. He's actually talking about how Democrats need to do better to reach Hispanic voters.
